What's new

AOS will be selling reformulated creams beginning in October

Just left the Cherry Creek AOS in Denver and the staff there informed me (after asking me why I kept reading the ingredients on every jar or product) and my answer being that I am severly allergic to parabens --- I get a crazy awful rash on the right side of my face and forehead --- they both then looked at me and smiled and then informed me that AOS (P&G) have announced to their retail locations that beginning in October (to be exact they were told last week, after two more replenishments) that they will be only selling products across their entire line that are free of parabens of any kind.

very exciting for me, as I love the smell of Ocean Kelp --- BUT for those who want a deal .... you may see AOS unload the paraben containing creams for a discount ....the associates there were not 100% sure on that piece yet.

May be old news .... but I am excited.

Will the reformulated creams be marketed 'designed to work best with Fusion razors' per P+G brand-alliance strategy? Just kidding ... I know, many threads have ripped AoS as well as P+G. They are an easy target. Their creams/soaps/AS are have been superb in terms of quality though, I will admit.

Normally reformulations end up being for the worse, I am kinda worried b/c the current formulation is one of the best creams on the market.

They said that the testing has convinced them that they could produce as good of/ or better a product without the parabens.

Let's hope so.

Well of course - no company intentionally sets out saying, "Hey, let's make an inferior product and push THAT instead!"

At least, not any company that's around very long.

Keep in mind this is information from a single retail store. I just got off the phone with the Beachwood store location and they do not know of any changes to any creams.

Until we get some additional confirmation, let's take this thread with a grain of salt.

Can anyone else call around to other AOS stores and inquire?

Well, hopefully, if they do change, the performance will stay the same. I'm not a huge floral fan, but enjoy lavender. I just picked up a tub of the AOS Lavender cream and it is ridiculous how good it works for me!

I called my local store in Jacksonville, Fl. and they knew nothing about it. They sent an email to corporate asking "how to respond to customer inquires like this" and they were told it's been discussed but not official yet. They did, however, tell me that the packaging would be changing soon.

Called my local store in Oakbrook IL.

They confirmed that they will be going paraben free, but said it would be a slow roll-out starting soon (would not commit to a date). She also said something along the lines that the parabens in their current lineup are not from the soap / cream but rather they are all "natural" parabens from the fragrance oils. I'm completely ignorant about parabens so she was speakin' Japanese at that point, but it sounded like she knew *** she was talking about.

Some Parabens are found in plant life. However, the body metabolises them differently if placed on the skin vs ingested. I.E some fruites contain methylparaben.
So regardless if they are natural or synthetic they can still cause issues with the skin.

Pardon my ignorance.

Would the fact that the parabens in AOS products coming from fragrance oils vs. a synthetic additive speak to the total volume of parabens in the product? Because such little oil is needed to scent, and those "natural" parabens would be a fraction of the total amount of oil - and you are using a fraction of the oil per shave? I don't know how many parabens were in a tube of Old Proraso by volume - but I'd imagine if parabens are being used as a additive to function as a preservative, it would require a significantly greater amount by volume to achieve those results than the incidental amounts that come from the process of distilling essential oils.

I hope that all makes sense. Again I am completely ignorant to parabens in all capacity.

Here's to hoping their creams perform as good as they do now. I really like my AOS cream.

Well, I will point you towards Proraso's reformulation. Everyone agrees that their stuff is better now than it was before they changed. With the money behind AOS I will wager a dollar that it turns out the same, if not better.

I am still waiting for Ocean Kelp soap.

All they are doing..per P & G requesting from them is becoming paraben free...this is coming directly from the Western Regional Director that I had a chat with last month.. unless there is going to be an actual reformulation... who knows for sure..

I know of several people that feel the proraso reformulation was a failure. I personally have only tried the new red and I love it. I also love AOS current creams and I hope they continue to perform. Me, I have nothing against parabens. I kinda like em.

NO reason to reformulate without parabens. It usually ends up being a worse performing product with shorter shelf life. There is no conclusive statistical evidence that parabens have any negative health consequences. It's utter BS that these companies are reformulating because of some small group of vocal people who are obviously disassociated from reality.

One of my cousins is convinced that parabens are the cause of all skin cancer. She said to me "why is it that now skin cancer rates are higher than ever with all the sunscreen products on the market that we didn't use to have available? Parabens" I said "Nope. Not parabens. Pollution and decay of the ozone layer." I love my parabens, and they love me.
