What's new

AOS look and feel alike.

Im a BIG fan of the AOS lineup. The preshave and the cream. The aftershave I can take that or leave it. But here is my fear and my typical luck. I'll get to depending on it and they will either go out of business or re-formulate or ?? and ruin it for me. Sooooo...

Which one(s) of you vastly experienced men out there have tried ( and hopefully liked) the AOS line and have found almost EXACTLY the same charactistics in another brand of cream!!???

I love the slickness of their cream...how it seems to protect my face as I slide that DE over it.....how it seems to soften up my beard better than hot water ever thought of...and how in general it really does what its supposed to. The preshave "oil" also...for me, it does a terrific job.

So who do I look to for a similar performing product? TOB; Castle Forbes; Cyril Salter; D.R. Harris; Jagger maybe??? Someone has already run this road ahead of me and found an alternative or even what they thought was a better product..???

So if you guys could help an old crippled; blind; veteran....( Am I getting any sympathy here yet) Id sure appreciate some leads guys.

P.S. Only thing wrong with me is "TB"....stands for "two bellys"....lol

DR Harris
eShave
Truefitt & Hill

In that order.......but I find the scents of AOS shaving cream are of very high quality, and I have yet to find a better Sandalwood scent, a better Lavender scent (CF Lavender is the only one that trumps it) and a better true Lemon scent.
DR Harris also have shaving creams of equally (also Creighton made like the 3 T's also are and of course AOS creams) high quality, and equally great scents - but they are quite far from AOS scents......

I appreciate the feedback. Scent isnt the only thing...actually not even the main thing Im seeking. It could be totally unscented and be OK... The "mechanics" of the product is my aim. Lubricity and lather quality..etc...etc. are my hold grail. A high quality ( in performance) cream.

I'd say if they work for you, keep using them. I haven't heard of any reformulations or discontinued rumours. If and when the time comes, grab as many as you can and you'll be set for a few years.

I have and enjoy AOS Lemon and Lavender. I also enjoy CF Lime & Lavender and find them to be superior in terms of scent and post shave feel.

If you enjoy AOS, you will surely like GFT Cocount Cream. it's the only GFT I have tried and am not sure how the other scents perform, but the Coconut is superb.

Just keep in mind that CF "creams" are much closer to a soft soap in consistency. I happen to like that quite a bit but load the brush on the tub rather than scoop some out. The Lime smells, and works, great!

Actually there is a thread somewhere here about AOS doing a re-formulation (supposedly going paraben free). A few B&B guys called their local store & got some confirmation this was indeed going to happen, but no exact date as to when rollout would happen.

I love the AOS sandalwood, but if it went away I'd be OK w/ using Proraso Red in its place. Also love the Ocean Kelp, but don't know of anything else like it out there.

I find the Gentlemens Refinery creams to be very close to AoS. Slightly less moisturizing, but still very acceptable and the cream consistencies and feel are nearly identical.

I doubt AOS will go out of business with the P&G money behind them. They have actually expanded quite a bit. There is a rumor of an upcoming reformulation however. One alternative I just noticed is that shavingcreams.com has launched a line called Hirsch Luxury that looks aimed at competing with AOS, at least in terms of scents and packaging.

God why would the reformulate for something as stupid as parabens, which have no statistically proven health consequences. Hope they don't ruin the formulas on a witch hunt like other manufacturers have. Sick of the anti-paraben sentiment.

They all semm to follow that path - Proraso just did it, TOBS did it, Santa Maria Novella did it, Omega did it and now AOS.

In the case of Proraso, the consensus seems to be that the reformulated (sans-paraben) stuff is better than the original!

For marketing as much as anything, I think.

The problem with removing the parabens is now the cream is not going to last as long and may go bad after a long time. A real problem for those that have multiple years worth of shaving cream.

They'll just switch to another preservative. The Simpsons shaving cream has metabisulfite in it, which is the sulfite in wine.

You're right. I still think it's a mistake since most people don't care about parabens. It's a false perception to think they are any danger without PROOF. Sick of these natural nazi types destroying good products by spreading their BS propaganda around and getting people who don't know anything to believe them.
