AoS acquired by P&G

I don't know how many of you guys are aware of this. I was in my local Macys mens department and was talking with the clerk at the cologne counter about wetshaving stuff. The Proctor and Gamble rep overheard us and mentioned that they had acquired AoS and that there was a possibility of them trying to get AoS products into Macys stores.

I don't buy AoS stuff on principle because of this. I refuse to be hosed for their cartridges, and won't contribute to their shaving monopoly by being hosed for other shaving products as well.

They do make stellar soaps and creams, though. I agree with your sentiments when it comes to their overpriced brushes, cartridge handles and the like, but the more people we have buying their tallow soaps, the more likely they will continue to make them. I would hate to see them disappear.

There was a thread about this some time ago on the boards...but the general consensus is that their soap (product which many believe is the best Tallow-based soap currently available) will not change ingredients for the time being...

Excuse my ignorance, but who are AoS?

Art of Shaving.

P&G will do whatever it can to expand AOS so it can benefit P&G's bottom line. Most likely down the road you will see ads is magazines, perhaps a TV commercial, etc. They will decide whether AOS remain as a premium line and be priced accordingly. However, it is hard to see how P&G will do anything to own its Gillette's brand.

Is there a Time Warp here?

P&G owns Gillette and has owned AOS for at least a year or more.
AOS has been in Macy's and other shops like Nordstroms for ages.

There is a AoS store here at Lenox mall. That is where I bought both of my Merkur De razors. I like the place and the staff are very nice and helpful.

Of course you should do what feels right to you, but AOS soaps are some of the best currently on the market. You are depriving yourself of one of the premier shaving products available. My favorite is their Sandalwood shaving soap. If you like creams, their sandalwood shaving cream is also excellent.

+1

AOS soaps are at the top of my list.

Also, Top is right. This is old news.

I am somewhat conflicted as it relates to AoS. Their store was what first got me interested in wet shaving and it's where I purchased my first products. Their products were readily available across the street at Nordstrom as well. I like AoS in that they introduced me to wet shaving and removed me from the darkside, but knowing what I know now, their shaving paraphenilia is overpriced. I find their unscented cream to be very good, however. I am curious as to how it compares to the Gentlemen's Refinery unscented.

AoS will more than likely expand because of it's corporate ownership. Pretty much everyone we buy from is selling corporate products though (Proraso, Musgo, Muhle, etc.). Where AoS ventures into new territory for US customers is that it also has its own stores and product lines.
