What's new

Anyone used either of these before?

Anyone had any experience with either of these EJ bowls/mugs?

EJ Bowl

Mug

Or any other suggestions for using with a cream, fancy quite a luxurious looking bowl/mug to sit well with the EJ Lighthorn DE and brush I'm getting. About £30 max (£45-$50)

Not sure if this should be posted in with brushes or DE razors, so if in the wrong place, sorry!

My recommendation would be is get a mug. I currently use an oversized shaving mug and the handle make is much easier to generate lather. The mug doesn't shift as I'm firmly gripping it and it beat a nice lather very quickly.

Yes some of the deep mugs look good and like you say holding them is probably much easier, until the handle snaps off that is during mid lather frenzy! :)

I don't have the EJ mug, but do have the identical Col. Conk mug. It works very well, and can be used to bowl lather or you can keep a puck of soap in it and lather on top of the soap. There is enough room above the soap to use like a lather bowl.

Nice one actually, contacted them and they said it would be $15 plus $37.50 for processing and shipping to UK! Shame cos at $15 it's a good find.

maybe the col. conk apothecary mug might be found cheaper shipped to UK... i'd bet they are made by the same company just with different logos added on the side

Any others that have the chrome trim like on the EJ bowl? Quite like that mix on the EJ one, it doesn't look very deep though hence the mugs seem better.

I have the Muhle badged version of the bowl - a bit cheaper than the EJ if you shop around. It's not a bad design - there's a large punt in the base which works well with EJ/Muhle soap pucks. I have the black version, with platinum rim - the build quality is - unsurprisingly - great.

My bathroom is filling with EJ/Muhle stuff - bought a stand for my DE89L yesterday, tho I already have an EJ stand that holds razor and brush, so new home for my R41 :001_smile

I face lather, so maybe I shouldn't butt in here. But I own a couple of nice-loking bowls for my soaps; the kind you want to display on the top of the sink. The problem is a crowded sink, especially if you want three or four or more soaps in your rotation, like me. I ended up putting some soaps into plastic bowls with lids, so the soaps can be stored away between shaves. Those plastic bowls are cheap and, if you pick wisely, they also allow plenty of room for lathering.

Honestly I would just spring for a ceramic mug at some no-name store. Basically you're paying for branding, no real quality improvement. Whatever floats your boat, though.

Part of me totally agrees with what you are saying, and usually if I wasn't spending much I'd do exactly that (and you are right in saying you are paying for the branding), but as my wife has offered to buy me a load of nice kit as a special 30th present I thought it would be nice to have a special bowl (and being in graphics myself I do appreciate some nice branding or nice touches), I'll only use it with cream so not a problem if it has to store soap puck in bottom or not.

Ah  In that case, completely ignore what I had said. This situation, it's as much about sentimental value as utility; basically, don't stop looking until you find the perfect one. You won't regret it. Just my 2c.

It's resin I'm afraid but a brilliant brush... I've been looking at the Muhle range of horn/wood handled razors and brushes for ages, tho my wallet is twitching towards the EJ Bulbous razor/brush at present.
