What's new

Anyone try Acqua di Parma Oud?

Howdy all! I was all set to buy myself this new oud concoction, but as the sample I sprayed on myself dried down I found myself less and less interested in this scent. Has anyone here tried this scent, and liked it? Of the oud scents I've smelled, this is this best to my nose, but still an unlovable potion for me.

Yes, there have been a few recent threads about it.

Ah, thanks. I'll look for them. I've seen a few on basenotes but the discussion has been more about outrage that AdiP jumped into the oud pool rather than on honest impressions about the scent. I guess it's just one of those scents that inspires outrage but I'm genuinely curious about the impressions of others and measuring their impressions against mine.

I've been on a bit of new purchase hiatus, but I found it quite nice. It will hit you weird if it's your first expeience with oud scents.

I quite liked it in a short sample wear when it first came out. And my favorite waitress went gaga over it.

Yes, many Basenoters have grown weary of everybody and their brother leaping into the oud pool. Just a matter of time before there's Old Spice Oud in their view.

Perfect. Thanks for that. I didn't end up buying this oud but I do like this one more than any of the others that I've smelled/tried. I needed to measure other folks' oud meter against mine.

I have Montales Dark Aoud and Tom Ford Oud Wood. The AdP is a bit different than them, but not different enough to justify a purchase for me. I find there is a lot of similarity between most of the synthetic oud scents (as opposed to the real oud oils).

I agree with that. I haven't smelled Montales' oud, but it is sufficiently different from Tom Ford's. Bond's version is, I believe, derived from real oud, but I find it too intense and spicy. Although AdiP's version is the softest and most palatable version I've come across, it is its finish that I find most troubling. It's actually this finish that I find similar among the oud versions I've smelled and makes it hard for me warm up to (despite my inexplicable desire to want to warm up to the ouds).

Thanks again for your input.

I purchased this scent primarily because my wife liked it on me. I am pleased with it thus far and it garners a lot of compliments though none are nearly as important to me as the compliments I get from my wife.

Ah, smart man. I'm actually considering getting rid of my Creed Aventus for this exact reason - my wife hates it on me. I went to Neiman Marcus intent on buying AdiP oud, and instead got a different AdiP EDT because she liked it more than the oud. And frankly, I didn't put up much of a fight.

I may be getting the Creed Royal Oud and AdP oud mixed up but one of them smelled like chocolate to me, not that is was bad, just wasn't my speed.

You know, I smelled the Creed Royal Oud, but was immediately turned off. I recall it had a cloying initial note, but I don't recall if I caught any chocolate.

As a collector of oud oils, I have to tell you that even tho I haven't smelled it I'm 99.99999% sure that Bond's version has nothing to do with the smell of actual oud and everything to do with the smell of synthetic oud. Based on all the other "oud" fragrances out there from the mainstream houses that I've sampled (including Montale), virtually none of them bear any relation to the scent of actual, distilled oud oil.

Apologies for hijacking your thread. Carry on.

No apologies necessary. I actually appreciate the info very much. I've only recently become interested in oud scents - or, rather, want to be interested in oud scents - but I can't seem to find any that I like once it dries down. So, IMO, the more info the better. Thanks!

Are you sure about that? You (and your bank account) might want to re-think that statement. :ihih:

i believe the only "conventional" frag that uses true oud is by Mona di Orio (link below). You'll note the cost of using true oud reflected in the price.

You can find some actual, oud-based perfumes here & here. Please note that the wares sold by both of these vendors are all-natural. The perfumes are @ 100% aromatic strength, so a 3ml bottle should last you pretty much forever.
