What's new

Anyone prefer Astra SS over SP?

There's obviously a lot of love for the super platinums, but I don't hear a lot of talk about the Astra stainless. Never tried them myself, just curious.

I had the Astra SPs on my wish list from the beginning. I won a PIF that included an Astra SS. Once I tried the SS I knew it was easily one of the best blades for me. Thinking the SPs had to at least be on par or better I ordered a 100 pack of those. I've been really enjoying my shave but have wondered if the SS is better than the SP for me. Either way, I've found a brand to stay with.

SS is just an easier more comfortable blade. Astras are really inexpensive..
Buy a small package of SS and SP versions. Shave 1 day with one, one day with the other.
Repeat about 3 times..you be the judge

Well, I have never tried either, but I just ordered 100 Astra SP's. There are so many mixed reviews between these blades that I basically just picked one. It sounds like they are both pretty good blades so I don't think I can go wrong. I have an adjustable razor anyways so I am thinking I should be able to dial it in for optimal results.

I find both the SP and SS to be excellent blades, but find the SS to be slightly smoother overall. For some odd reason, I find the SP a little rough on the first couple of shaves but then things even out between the two blades from then on. I'm fairly new to all this so haven't had heaps of experience testing blades.

Good words, i did just that - the SP are great blades but for me the SS are the best!

The SP is my most used blade. I've only tried 1 SS. I didn't like it. That was in the early days though and my technique will have improved. Time to give them another try I reckon.

+1

The first time I shaved with an Astra SS, I really didn't like my shaves for that week. At the time I chalked it up to being new to DE shaving and problems with my technique. Next in my sampler was Merkur blades and that week my shaves were awesome, yesterday I threw another Astra SS in my razor, and again I had iritation and nicks. I'll try again with my next shave, but so far I'm not luvin the Astra SS.

I have only tried the Astra SP and found that there was a dab of glue or something from the wrapper that was left on the blade that made it gather hair and shaving cream. Did not love that but then again I am not sure if that is common.

Astras are notorious for their wax spots. The new packaging may help that. Still, there's heaps of old stock left.

Well, that explains a ton. Is there a work around for that? Possibly buffing the blade off before use with a towel?
