What's new

Anyone feel they're to young for Pinaud products?

I received my samples from e-barbershop today and I'm very happy with their service! Everything arrived quickly and was packaged nicely.

Right now I have some Special Reserve on my forearm and as I sniff it, I like the smell but it reminds me of old Avon products that I've smelled at antique stores. It's a pleasant scent but I don't know if I would ever feel confident wearing it. It just smells to much like a nursing home :001_unsur. I also enjoy the regular Clubman sample I received but again I feel it's too old fashioned for me. I'll give it some more time, but I don't know if I can wear these confidently. I'm kinda bummed because I really wanted to like them. I'm not totally new to fougeres or "older" smelling colognes as I own a bottle of Rive Gauche, which I wear often and confidently, as well as a sample Azzaro PH Night Time.

Does anyone else feel the same?

How old are you? Since when does leather and smoke type of frag smell like a nursing home?

Have you smelled the stuff they are marketing these days? Stuff like Axe etc. Phew, I can see why Issac thinks Pinaud products smell old if that's what he's used to.

I like it and I am 26.
However, my wife hates it and the folks at work say I smell like an old man. I don't these scents very much anymore because of these two reasons.

Like the old Jack Palance skin bracer commercial
said "confidence is sexy"
Clubman and confidence can't be beat

I'm probably one of the youngest on B&B, being a freshman in college. I suppose that's why it smells old fashioned to me. I don't or would never wear axe but yes everybody around me wears them and other forms of aquatics (which because of that, I don't own any). I'm sure I'll come to enjoy the Pinaud line as I wear it more, just on first impression it smells too much like older gentlemen.

I can pull of Rive Gauche fine and I don't really care if it's not popular (quite the contrary!) it just that when your chasing girls you don't like to take chances scaring them off by smelling like and old man haha. Absolutely no disrespect to the older gentlemen on hear or anyone that wears Pinaud. I may save these for days I'm hanging out with my guy friends or just working out in the shop. Who knows, I may come to really enjoy them!

I'm 26 as well and I've gone through the same conundrum. I, however, love the smell of the old school aftershaves. I use the Original Clubman and Clubman Bay Rum on a regular basis. Like you, I've been told I smell like an old man at least as much as I've been told I smell good. I still wear the old school products anyway, because I enjoy them, and I've yet to find anything that makes my face feel better than Original Clubman.

If you want a nice new age fragrance that's easy to get your hands on, I would try some Adidas Dynamic Pulse Aftershave (I bought mine at Kroger's, but I've seen it at Wal-Mart as well). I don't like it quite as much as the Pinaud fragrances, but I get more compliments wearing it. Somewhere in the subconsciousness of the average person, it must be more fitting for people our age to smell like the new age products. Adidas makes an Edt of the same fragrance, but I haven't tried it yet.

A nursing home? Sure it wasn't The Veg? Given my moniker, no use pretending I'm young, but yes, I like Pinaud, reminds me of barbershops of my long ago youth. Just set them aside till you're at least 50, maybe that's when our noses and brains start to deteriorate. Or wait till the labels change, and put them up on ebay as "old formulation." Usually good for a 50% price hike. :wink2:

It is definitely old school. For some that's a good thing, while others like yourself find it unpleasant. I don't like all of the old scents but I really like some including bay rum, British Sterling and Jade East. I get some weird looks but it doesn't effect my enjoyment and know that there is not a single scent created that won't put off somebody, somewhere. If you like it, own it.

I don't feel too young..... but I don't exactly feel the need to try Pinaud products. I waited quite a while to finally try Clubman AS and it was something of a let down. Not bad by any means.... but way over hyped IMO. It's also not my favorite type of scent. Canoe AS was the same way for me. Those really powdery ones tend to give me a sickening headache. I also finally got curious about Skin Bracer and bought a bottle a few weeks ago. Another one I don't care for, but seems to be very popular. I do enjoy variety, but for some reason these drugstore type after shaves don't capture my attention. I like AV and Old Spice, but again I associate them as being cheap drugstore scents. I would say the other reason I haven't tried anything other than Clubman is the fact that the other Pinaud after shaves are not readily available in my local brick and mortars and since I'm not likely going to pay $5 to ship a $8 bottle of aftershave, I just pass.

Well for some reason, on my skin I get musk, smoke, and powder but I'm hardly getting the leather note?

I'm not that good at describing fragrances, and it sounds like your description is better.

For what it's worth I can't detect leather in English leather.

I wanna be sedated!
I am North of 40 and South of 50. I love their Bay Rum, but then I am old compared to some of youse whipper snappers.

If you like it, wear it.

+1

I am age 35. I don't at all subscribe to the idea that scents have age groups.

I simply wear what I like. I tend to like quite a few of the tried, and true classics.

I am not sure there is anything inherinetly wrong with smelling like an older gentlemen anyway: people back then had morals, were polite, and knew the value of hard work. All three are things the younger generation tends to be lacking. They also took time to enjoy some of the finer things in life, like slowing down and enjoying a good Cigar or Pipe.

I'm older but I don't think that has anything to do with it. I don't like the smell of nursing homes or old peoples houses who haven't changed anything in years but that's not the after shave that you're smelling.

If you don't care for it however that's enough of a reason not to wear it. If it's just the perception that it's for old people then you're worrying too much about being just like everyone else. I wasn't like that at 20 and I"m not like that now.

Be different! I didn't like Clubman when I first bought it (which was only a month ago). Now I do like it. I do remember than smell from the barbershop when I was a kid however that's not enough of a reason for me to wear it now! :) It does just have a retro vibe (to me).

I've got some samples coming from ebarbershop as well. I have no idea as to whether I'll like any of the others.
