Anyone ever use Dorco double edge blades?

I got a sample from Larry Anderson at Whipped Dog with some other things this week. In the package was a Dorco double edge blade...

I use their cartridges for my head. So I looked on their site... 25 blades for 7.77... nice!

If these are the ones in the white and grey box, I didnt like them. Dull and painful, much pulling and scraping. Not recommended.

Nothing seems to divide people like blade choices. I love the Dorco 300 blade. Most people don't like them at all. I find them to be just great in just about all my razors including my slant.

I don't know if the Dollar General and Family Dollar blades are the 300 or 301 but they are definitely Dorcos. They are sold five for a dollar, they are an OK blade but I prefer other blades overall. If I were to travel by air and not take a checked bag (or my usual travel solution -- a disposable Personna or Wilkinson Sword double-blade razor, they have a blue plastic handle) I would not hesitate to use them at wherever I was going (assuming I could find a DG or FD). The carrier is nice for that purpose as well, as you use the blades up they go in the back of the carrier, once you finish off the pack the blades and carrier can be tossed in the trash. Any leftover blades could be left at the front desk (still in the carrier) for the next hapless traveler that needs blades.

They are not a very popular blade around these parts. With that said, the Dorco ST 301 is one of my favorite blades. I get good results and it's easy on the wallet. The ST 300 is an entirely different story...didn't work for me.

+1

In an R41 at one shave per blade (since they're cheap enough) and KMF Lime, they are amazing. Skin feels great, 2-pass near complete BBS, BBS with touch up.

I've used both the ST-300 and the ST-301, I got them as part of a sampler pack. I didn't care for either, although the 301s were a little better. I found them to be dull and prone to tugging, as others have mentioned. I still have some of the 301s that I could send your way if you want to try them before buying.

I tried the ST-301s and didn't like them. I'm giving them away as part of a PIF I'm offering right now so I hope they work better for whoever wins it. For me, there's too many other much nicer blades to even bother with these.

I've been using Dorco 300s for several years now, and like them a lot. For shaving ever other day, they're the right combo of sharp-enough and very, very smooth and forgiving. If for some reason I've gone the better part of a week sans shave, I'll put an IP in my Super Adjustable, set at "4", and go to it without drama. (NOTE: down to my last five or so IPs, so I'm now trying out the US-sourced Personnas; so far, not bad.)

Blades really are a personal thing: Feathers were a swing-and-a-miss, Derby Extras started out great but finished roughly, Merkurs were crazy-uneven from blade to blade, and I totally missed out on the vaunted Swede Gillettes. The IPs are about as close to "legendary" in performance as I found, and I'm hoping the "APs" (yes, let's start ID'ing this one Right Now) will at least come close. Test results in a few weeks. The 300s make for a good, consistent daily blade for me. And, having choices is good.

Sorry to bump an old thread, just wanted to contribute to a Dorco discussion.

I'm new to DE shaving and I've tried Merkur Platinum, Astra, Dorco and Feathers. I've still got some Derby blades and Red Precision blades (Personna?) from a sample pack. Thus far the Feather has been my absolute favourite. I cut myself up pretty good with the Merkur blades (possibly because they were my very first shaves with a DE). Astra just wasn't as sharp and didn't get as close as the Merkur (which I guess if I was cutting myself up was getting too close haha). The Feather blade is fantastic, but I'm not sure how long it will last. It was the best shave out of all of them. Very close and smooth shave. Very nice.

Now Dorco. What can I say about Dorco. It was the worst out of all of them. With a good shave, I only need to shave every other day. Dorco gave me 5 o'clock shadow. It pulled and tugged on the hairs, not smooth at all. It was the worst shave I've ever had in my life. I would go back to cartridges before using a Dorco blade again. Perhaps I'm being too quick to judge, but there are so many different blades out there that I tossed the Dorcos after that one shave. Terrible.

I tried a Dorco 301. It was too tuggy and rough, so I tossed it after the first cheek for a Lab Blue.

I also used a Family Dollar DE blade (I still have the other 4) and got a half decent shave. I wouldnt use them ALL the time, but if I went traveling and forgot blades, I could manage.

Both were with a '54 SuperSpeed (40's style).
