Anyone else use 2 different razors/blades per shave?

Hey there, just wondering if anyone else uses 2 razors or 2 different blades during their daily routine?

I have been shaving with one of these open comb Muhle R41. It's my first razor and I found it to be wonderful for my face but not so wonderful for my neck, especially on the upstroke.

So I bought one of these closed comb (BEAUTIFUL ROSE GOLD) Muhle R89. I use the closed comb more on my neck and for my 2nd and third passes.

I can't believe how big difference the shave from the OC vs CC razor is. Shaving with the closed comb feels almost like going back to a cartridge razor. I enjoy shaving with the open comb way more, despite that it sometimes leave me a little red in the neck.

I am loading the OC with Feathers and the CC with Derbys.

Any feedback, tips, or other best practices?

I sometimes do. I might, say, use an aggressive razor like the R41 for WTG and XTG passes, then use something mild for an ATG pass.

(I do agree how nice the Mühle rosegold is - I got my 2013 R41 in it :001_smile)

Bruce, aka BruceOnShaving blog, recommends a 3 razor technique very similar to what you described. I have never tried it. I also don't use adjustables. I feel like I have a lot to learn from one razor at a time. In the future, I may try the multiple razor idea ...

Ah yes, the Three Razor Method.

It took the wetshaving world by storm in late 2010. Until it was supplanted by -- you guessed it -- the Four Razor Exploding Palm Technique.....

Occasionally if I'm shaving with a milder razor (e.g., Weber), I will switch to a more aggressive one (R41 or Fatip) at the very end to deal with one or two difficult spots. Normally, though, I prefer to stick to one razor for the entire shave.

Sometimes I use four: Straight on both cheeks and chin. Injector to get up tight under my nose. DE on my neck and finally sometimes a Norelco electric to get the deep cleft on my chin. Where the hell is it written that you can't use more than one tool to get the job done? Some guys claim that you can do maintenance on a car with just a hammer and pair of pliers, but I would not recommend that! (I'd better be careful or the B&B censors will be on me, again.)

These days I tend to use my Feather SS for 1 or 2 passes to mow down the majority, then use a Hydro 3 for touch up and last pass. Getting good results with this combo. I get less weepers since not using the DE for the trouble areas, and using in this way stretches the cartridge life wayyy out. Works for me.

I will use two different razors on occasion. I keep a DE and an SE loaded at all times, so when I do this I switch between these two types, generally starting with the SE and finishing with the DE. Most of the time, however, it is just one or the other with me.

Three seems over the top, but using a mild razor for a bit of buffing and polishing has been very effective for me. For example, I have a Wilkinson Sword Classic (the black plastic one). It's very mild, but I can buff and j-hook away with it with almost zero chance of razor burn, and that can be very useful when I've done my main passes with an aggressive razor - in fact, it's all I ever use it for, because I find it too mild for full-shave use.

Also, when I use an adjustable, I vary the setting for each pass - usually wide open for the first pass, then close it down for subsequent passes.

(But I have to say, I do like the idea of the Four Razor Exploding Palm Technique :001_smile)

If it has been a few days I'll knock the stubble down with my R41, and finish of with a Merkur 34C. Perfect combo.

Same here occasionally. First with an aggressive (WTG) and then ATG with milder one. Sometimes vice versa.
Right now I am testing blade and razor combos so I use every day 2 razors. Right side for one and left side another. Seems like this way it's going to go about next six months.

I go by the K.I.S.S. principle; I don't switch razors in the middle of a shave and the blade in the razor stays there until I change it. However, sometimes the razor will get a Dawn/water/toothbrush treatment before the blade needs changing.

2 razors (one with a carbon steel blade and one with a stainless steel blade). 2 passes with the carbon steel blade and the final pass with the stainless steel blade. I do this to use up my carbon steel blades.

I have a small headed Schick Adjustable Injector that I use just for under my nose. That is when I'm using a Fatboy or other big head razor that doesn't let me get in that tight.
