I have the same experience with the Personna labs. They seem to smooth out after the first shave.
Anyone else throw blades away after one use.

Very true.
Lately i've been shaving with a schick injector, and i've read that some guys leave that blade on for weeks. For me, i feel that i only get about 3 good shaves with it, and then i have to chuck it.
The injector blades are just a little bit more $ than DE's, but still.
I find that blades go in one of two ways:
In the case of the former, better to chuck them. Feathers are a good example, for me at least. In the case of the latter, they can still perform a good service for an extended period, and my Pella injector blades seem to fit into that category.

- they stay smooth, but lose their sharpness and cutting ability
