What's new

Any other NASCAR fans?

How can we admit to it? isnt the stereotypical nascar fan a mollet wearing toothless redneck

I will pubically admit I am a nascar, ncaa football and nfl diehard fan

NASCAR fan here. A Denny Hamlin fan as well, since he is actually FROM here and cut his teeth on the short track by my house. Glad to see he won, again, last night, HERE in Richmond. Although I was not able to go to the race, I was working.

I'm an old school Earnhardt fan. If only the intimidator was still around. I also follow Mark Martin, but he needs to get more aggressive and not be such a nice guy on the track if he want's to win a championship. Sometimes you gotta use your front bumper to move somebody out of your way.

My favorite is Clint Bowyer. I also like Dale, Jr and Harvick and Jeff Burton. I also follow Jennifer Jo Cobb and Austin Dillon in the Truck Series.

I like NASCAR. I tend to pull for Dale, Jr more than anyone. I really havent kept up with it much this year thoug. Since the Chase is getting started I will probably see what is going on. I am big into College Football, especially the SEC (Go Cocks!!!). I am from SC so football is a way of life and so is NASCAR really. Both are like religions. I pretty much grew up in Alabama so well, the same pretty much holds true there tool. Now being in VA I have to watch a lot of ACC stuff but as long as I get to watch Clemson loose it is a great day!!!

I wouldn't exactly call my self a fan or any type of expert on it, but I do watch it from time to time and as I get older I find myself watching more often.

If it's got an engine and it goes fast, I'll watch it on TV.

I was really into NASCAR until the COT came out -- I've lost some interest since then. I think that the France family needs to loosen the rules and let the teams develop anything they want to run within a very basic set of rules/restrictions. Remember "Win on Sunday, Sell on Monday"? NASCAR used to be all about that. But I'm having a tough time finding a rear-wheel drive V8 Ford Fusion at my local dealership......

I do enjoy NASCAR and auto racing in general. That being said, I do not enjoy NASCAR like I use to. I am old school and for me the sport is not as good as it once was. Once Toyota was allow in, it has slowly gone downhill. It was an American sport so to me an import brand name should not have been added. You do not see Ford in F-1 do you? :) I realize it is a petty thing, but it does bug me a bit. I once was a Ford fan hoping that they would beat a Chevy, now I pull for any brand and for anyone who will keep a Japaneese brand from winning in a sport they do not belong in. To also add to an above post, I am also not finding a rear wheel drive, carborated V-8 Toyota Camery at my local dealership.

Another thing, in my opinion, that has made NASCAR not as good as it used to be is The Chase. I mean, this year Harvick has been leading and now it's taken away from him only because he doesn't have as many wins as Hamlin and Johnson.

I follow NASCAR pretty avidly (I'm a Tony Stewart fan) watching races on TV when I can and I recently attended my first race which was a heck of an experience. Truth be told though I'm very much and auto racing fan. In addition to NASCAR I follow F1, Rolex Sports Car Series, American Le Mans Series, and the World Rally Championship

That's probably not the best analogy considering F1 is very much an international series. You've got constructors from England, France, Italy and Germany just to name a few. It might be more akin to running a Ford in the DTM series in Germany maybe...

Really though, how foreign is Toyota? Yea, they're owned by the Japanese but they make a lot of their cars here in the states. If we're using ownership to designate nationality then the United States' flagship brewer, Budweiser, is foreign as well. I don't think it's as easy as it once was to designate companies as foreign. We live very much in an international economy with parts for so-called American made brands manufactured in many different countries.

I don't like it as much as I used to. From the looks of all the empty seats at the races now, it looks like I'm not alone, either. Like everything else, when the money and popularity skyrocketed, the sport has suffered as a result. NASCAR has continually tweaked the Cup series to the point that I feel it is broken, and instead of realizing their mistakes, they only pat themselves on the back thinking they made genius moves. They have pushed parity too much, not remembering that parity was what made the old IROC series go away. I like the safety aspects of the car of tomorrow, but I think they would be helping themselves by letting the teams go back to racing stock cars. Have an upper limit on engine size, allow only carburated engines with no superchargers, turbochargers, or nitrous, and no restrictions on spoiler height, angle, etc. If one team continually wins, so be it. Eventually other teams will do what it takes to beat them, and to me, seeing an underdog come up through the ranks is part of the fun.
