What's new

Any Gentleman's Refinery ASB users opinion please.

I absolutely adore TGR ASB and on my 3rd bottle. It is by far the best balm I have used and really noticed during these colder dryer months. Summer time it is not needed. However it does something that no other lotion, balm, milk, can replicate IMO. I have tried many but really want a different alternative as this stuff is $40 a pop. Any good alternatives? Most balms.....Nivea, Speick, gels, dont do jack for me except soothe at the minimum. Most are damn near useless. Thanks for the input. I will say that simple unrefined shea butter is amazing but too thick for daily wear.

there is no alternative to this ASB.. i too live off it literally it is phenomenal in all ways.. the best... i would be lost without it

another one i have on my radar is an ASB by miessence that looks promising but i doubt will be as effective as TGR just looking at the ingredients.

JKT, I cannot speak to the GR balm since I have not used it. However I have never seen anything but universal praise for it. To me you have hit upon a wet shaving unimpeachable truth: Aftershave products that are truly superb are the holy grail of wet shaving. Most are insanely priced when performance vs per use cost is figured. Most are much pricier compared to shave soaps per use. And about ninety percent of yhe balms/white lotions I have tried are actually over greasy generic bases with added stuff. For splashes I have found nothing like Musgo classic. Balms? Everyone says TGR!

Cheers, Todd

I tried and liked TGR aftershave balm. However, it was not something I replaced. Since you like it and it does everything you need an aftershave balm to do, keep using it. I expect a bottle lasts for quite some time, so overall the price is probably not that great when broken down on a per shave basis. If you really find the need to try something else, I like Momma Bear's aftershave milks. They are nice and light and work well for me. However, since you have found what you like, just stick with it.

I bought one bottle but I won't be buying another. It's nice enough, but a bit pricey and didn't perform as well as some of my favorites: Edwin Jagger Sea Buckthorn; TOBS Jermyn St. aftershave; Speick; Spanish Bathhouse Fig and Nutmeg.

Now I want to try it... but I don't want to pay $40 for a balm. So I can't compare but... there's a lot of love (and I agree that there should be) for QCS balms. I think the RazoRock AS Wax is reallyi good, too, but I use a splash first.

Thanks for all the replies and good to know it is a superb AS. I really want the try the QCS balm but as skleice mentioned its pretty much the same price. Also shipping is free from TGR. I really cant say how long a bottle lasts as I dont use it daily but 1 pump is more than efficient. A long time though! I also use Prairie Creations balm I have(remember them!?) but it is too thick. Once this bottle is done I might go for the RR wax and the QCS. I only use a balm 3-4 months a year so it might be a while:)

Big fan TGR aftershave balm. Consider some RazoRock aftershave wax - these are the only two aftershave balms I like.
