My wife is traveling to Morocco and Syria for work over the next 2 weeks. Are there any creams, soaps or blades worth buying that are not easily available in North America?
I did see a large tube of shaving cream that was labelled "Made in Syria" in a barber shop here in Sydney that was staffed by some Middle Eastern gentlemen. Since I'm already overstocked with soaps and creams I didn't buy it and can't remember the name, but at least it shows there are local products available.
The only problem I can see is that these sorts of products are probably bought by people who don't shop in air-conditioned shopping malls and Western-style supermarkets. If Morocco & Syria are like other less-developed countries I've been in, the local elite and middle-class wouldn't be caught dead using local products when they can flaunt their wealth and sophistication by buying imported products. This means that your wife would have to get away from the normal tourist haunts to find them. How comfortable is she in going into local bazaars and barber shops and dealing with people who speak little or no English?
BTW what sort of work sends your wife on trips to Morocco & Syria, and how can I get a job there?
