Anxiety attack?

Anyone ever had one? How about heart problems?

I have been told that I had exactly that this afternoon. I'm not sure I believe it but it does beat the alternative, a heart attack. I'd like to believe it was just a monster case of indigestion X 100.

Anyway, my wife just headed home after getting me some essentials; gym shorts, t shirt and a laptop. Guess I'm stuck here untill tomorrow at least and I'm bored out of my mind, nurse just came in and delivered a shot.

Most everybody here were very nice and seemed to know my wife, (MD). I can honestly say I have never received close to the attention I got today. I have spent my share of time in hospitals in the 33 years I worked, (my Purple Heart has 2 Stars) but I needed to be there. Right now I jsut want a cigarette.

I will say they have pretty good drugs here and I think I'm about to doze off. Will submit this now and maybe finish it later.

I've never had a full blown attack per se, but did suffer an immense amount of anxiety for years. ..... and Atavan become pals to you. Thankfully, I've not needed any or either of those for many a year. Thank goodness! No more anxiety and rarely a migraine either. Or maybe more manageable anxiety?

Most importantly, glad to hear you are okay and hope things work out great for you!

Yep, anxiety can give you some pretty serious symptoms. I was convinced for about a year that I had almost every ailment under the sun (especially to do with the heart) and was very reluctant to believe what they kept telling me: anxiety. Luckily there is a ton of information and support available (it has to be one of the most common afflictions out there these days) so I'm sure you'll be fine. Sounds like they are just taking routine precautions and you'll be back to your regular self in no time. And yeah, it sure does beat a real heart attack.

Good luck with your time in the hospital. It's nice to have PT gear--saves you from the one piece that you can never seem to get tied right. Hope they get everything taken care of for you soon!

Welcome to my world, I started with them about two years ago. The wife just had major surgery, bills were piling up, kids needed, well, everything. I wound up right where you are. Stabbing chest pains, shortness of breath, in the ER at 10 pm thinking it's a heart attack, almost pissed me off when they told me it's a panic attack! Took about 6 months to accept the possibility that it might be true. Now I find ways to de-stress, for example, wetshaving. It's not the end of the world, it just feels like it. Hang in there brother, you'll be allright.

I still suffer from panic attacks. There are certain triggers for me, but they come on unexpectedly too. It is not a pleasant thing but sure beats a MI. Hope you're feeling better soon.

hmm, it is interesting that they would keep you overnight in the hospital for a panic attack, however, if your wife is an MD, that makes more sense. Whether it is right or not we take care of our own. Also, not sure about your age (couldn't determine it from profile) but this is just not something you mess with. Hey, I work with Kids and when moms come in with their teenage children having chest pain, the best thing I can tell them is it's not a heart attack. Anyway, I love your necessities list. shorts, shirt and laptop. Hey, I have lived in hospitals for years so I would only need a laptop to be comfy, OK and maybe a wordfind, but I really hope you get to feeling better and don't miss too many shaves...

Just a thought...
There was a post you made about an incident in a restaurant, is there any connection?

The only time I had something close to it was when I was in the army in a bunker and couldn't breath. I was born with a stuffy nose and later broke it so all that with a touch of claustrophobia was a good recipe for an attack.

Anyway, I wish you a full and speedy recovery.

I'm 58, and still groggy. Came in with another "shot" a bit ago, so I think I'm on my way out again

Don't think som never gave tat a second thought

Hope you feel better soon; I know how much being in the hospital stinks.

You mentioned that you are going to be getting custody of another child soon, so I wouldn't be surprised at some anxiety if I were you. It's only natural.

I used to get them a lot, especially in crowds, but it got so bad I was getting them even at night. I eventually found out I had Mitral Valve Prolapse brought on by a childhood heart murmer that never quite healed. I've luckily kept under control mostly by keeping hydrated and going to a healthier diet.

The worst it got for me was when I'd had it under control for years and a few months ago I pulled my chest taking out the trash and aggrevated it again. I thought I was having a full blown heart attack (left arm numb, the whole bit), but it ended up being just a 'bad episode'. I've been taking Magnesium pills since (in place of more expensive beta blockers) and have cut back my salt and seem to be fine now.

Either way, anxiety attacks can be crippling and I hope you feel better soon!

Just say NO. Which is what I did this time and she argued with me, (mean nurse) but no more shots!!!

Think I'll go visit EVERYBODY and find a cigarette. (maybe they'll throw me out).

That very issue starts a lot of fights with patients. If you didn't know, I am a security officer at a hospital. :w00t:

My did got ejected for going to the hospital cafeteria and ordering Biscuits and Gravy for breakfast. Wearing only his booties and his gown with his butt hanging out. Apparently the staff on the floor did not appreciate having a patients heart monitor go off the screen, then not be able to find that patient. Probably did not help that he was there to get a defibulator installed to correct his heart problems.

He told them if they had served him breakfast he would not have had to go the the cafeteria.

home

Had to promise to take it easy this weekend but I feel good. Thanks everyone for the well wishes.

Do have to take care of some family stuff this afternoon and agreed to a physical thingy on Monday.

ps
Sorry about the goofy posts, maybe the laptop wasn't such a great idea.
