Are there any scale out there with elk or deer antler. Just thinking there might be someone who does good scrimshaw work. It would be nice to have one from a personaly taken deer.

Yes, I've made several out of Elk antler.

I'm including the pics of the original antler for reference. The smaller razor nearly looks like Ivory since it came from the very tip. That's actually the section of antler that provided the scales.
The other, one of my early attempts at a restore was a John Pitts. On this scale you can easily make out the darkness and some pores from being so wide, thick and nearer the center of the antler. But I think that's part of the beauty of using natural products.
If you do decide to use this stuff wear a respirator. One,, the stuff stinks,, and two, it's not fun to breathe the dust.
