A beautiful 8/8 Wade and Butcher Celebrated Hollow Ground
with a nice 1/4 chip, restoring would take it down to a 6/8 [sigh].

...those choppers are really big razors!

Marco, I am no expert, but my guess is that the razor is from the late 1800's (1880-1890) time frame.
I did not purchase the razor. I can do restorations, but the razor was not worth the $52.50 they were asking, considering the amount of work it would need to removed the chip.

I scored a 9/8" Geo Wost extra hollow chopper at an antique store for under $50 once. It was damn near NOS. It's still the only real big DEAL I ever got at an antique shop. Never found any yardley bowls or Old spice NOS soaps or Thuringians in the Dollar bin or anything like that. Bought a few other nice razors and brushes, but I paid what they were worth (sometimes more just because I was a bit excited about actually finding something good).

That chopper though. No joke, 9/8" almost NOS, and the guy was asking the same price for it as for a chipped out rusted 5/8" Torrey. It was the antique store score of my life. It's a BEAST. Really fun to shave with, but definitely not an everyday razor for me. It'd be like going to work on a roller coaster every day.

Ian... I need pics.
Last year, I got a coticule (1.5X6) from a junk store for a dollar, I talked him down from two.

I'll get some sooner or later. My sd card is in my car loaded with music at the moment, so can't until I remember to bring it in.

Yeah, stone scores always drive me crazy. Some guy here bought two 3x5" eschers for like $2 each from a flea market a year or so ago... I think he snagged a coticule with them too for like $5.

Showing off my legendary photography skills. The only damage on the razor are the fleabites in the scales right up near the tang. These ones are very obviously intentionally made (Smoothly ground out, equal size and matching location on both scales), I see them in big razors a lot and I think it's a display thing. They notch them to put some kind of a stop there to display the razor opened.

I didn't even polish it, it was shiny and new when I bought it. Really was a gem of a find. Couldn't believe my luck.
