Antique Shop

While there today, I found one Gillette. Don't ask me what kind...I dunno. It was a whopping $4.50. In decent shape, needed a cleaning. I didn't get it...I resisted the urge.

Found two other DE's that the threads were rusted out on so the handles didn't stay. Also, they'd been "repaired" via a screw through the top of the razor. TACKY!

Well, in the back, I hit the JACKPOT!! There was a mug full of straights and a few GEMS, Auto Valets, etc. I see some prices, some are $10. Wait, there's a sign up top that says 50% off. No way! $5 for a straight. Well, every single one should have been thrown away. PURE JUNK. Rusted, pitted, chipped, scales missing and off, don't close properly, stuck shut...ugh. Pathetic.

And, likely that dissapointment is why I left empty handed. Besides, I all really want now is an adjustable and a straight, so no need for the other.

You have to realize that 1) most antique stores are picked over pretty regularly by professional collectors and resellers, and 2) once someone expresses a lot of interest in vintage razors, the store owner is usually smart enough to check them out on Ebay, and the stock of cheap razors in good condition gets swung over that way.
