What's new

Another, Will I like a slant thread.

Ok, I'm thinking of getting a slant, probably the 37C. My favorite razor is my Progress set quite low. I keep mine set just under 2. I use Astras and Feathers in it. I really don't like razors where I can feel much blade against my skin. The 34C is a little too aggressive for my tastes. I tried a Weber and it was possibly the least comfortable shaver I've tried since trying Old and New types which were terrible for me. OC's and I are not friends. I also have a very heavy beard and can't shave ATG. I get very good shaves from my Progress. Do you gents think I would like a slant considering what I've outlined above? You opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Ymmv... You never know till you try it! People told me I wouldn't like mine and I LOVE IT!! People said I'd like my EJ 89... And well... I sold it...

It is hard to say, you probably won't like it (you sound a bit picky, haha), but it doesn't hurt to try (to satisfy your curiosity), easy to re-sell if necessary...

Slants are mild yet efficient. I would say it would feel similar to your progress set at the lower end of the adjustable scale but will shave you much closer.

You silly boy. You've been here long enough to know the answer to any "Should I buy ......" question.

I have very sensitive skin and can't shave ATG as well. I love my slant, I load it with a feather and do 2 passes WTG and get a great shave with no irritation.

I have what I would call sensitive skin with a medium beard, but enjoy a slant now and then.
The 37c is a good one but I enjoy a couple vintage slants even more. Slants are easy to find a new home should it not be for you.

You will never know until you try one. However, if you think a 34C is too aggressive, I don't see how the slant would be good for you. I have the 34C and consider it to be very forgiving. I also have a 37C slant. I have only used it once, but it is MUCH more aggressive than the 34C. YMMV.

Yes must be a YMMV thing as I would tell the story the other way, but that is the wonderful world of shaving.

It was the gent above ^^ say to me a long time ago when I had my Hoffritz slant that the shave is similar in smoothness as an Aristocrat. I had to agree. I never kept it do to my impatience as I wanted to try others but the first couple shaves were wonderful.
Op, sounds like you have a good plan.

Foyle, i would pass on the Slant as it can be just as aggressive as those razors you don't get along with. i have tried the 37C, twice and the 39C and they were just a bit too uncomfortable of shavers for me.
Good luck, but you know you gotta try it for yourself, right?!

You people are terrible. I've got a 37C on the way from WCS now. Thanks a lot.

I appreciate all the input gents, but you're right. I'll need to try it for myself and see. Here goes nothing.

I hope you were not looking to be talked out of picking one up.
Around here that would be like stopping by the bar looking for a ride to the next AA meeting.:biggrin1:

Celestino actually had me talked out of it last night. But then I remembered how so many people said the Futur would tear your face off if you weren't careful, and I really liked the Futur, so... what's the worst that can happen? If I don't like it I'll just put it up on the BST.

My slants are razors I have to force myself to stay away from as I like them so much I find I just don't use my other razors when I get slant binging..

I just started to use a 37C and it is great. The shape was off-putting and it does look very aggressive but it actually shaves very well indeed. I would have no hesitation in recommending it.

What other slants are there in the market other than the 37 and 39 from Merkur?
