Another first straight shave completed!

Hi all,

I had my first straight shave last night. I was using a brand new Dovo 'En Vogue' razor that had been honed and stropped to shave-readyness by www.razorsharpening.co.uk.

It was a completely different experience to what I was expecting. The shave itself was very poor on my part - my technique was absolutely awful but I ended up with a fairly decent shave.

I tried two WTG passes. I had about 4 days growth to cut through and the first pass was a real struggle. The blade was bouncing around all over the place, I was struggling to hold the razor and get the right approach to my face etc. I did my chin and lip with a DE as I wasn't confident enough to try those areas. The second pass went a bit better but there was still a lot of difficulty manouvering and the blade was still skipping and digging.

But despite all that I ended up with an almost irritation free shave that was just about as close as I mangage with my DE. I definitely learned a lot and can't wait to try again.

I think I'll be spending the next few days watching YouTube videos over and over again :biggrin1:.

Congrats.

Being on my 7th or 8th shave myself, it does get better after the first shave. I am now able to get BBS smooth on my cheeks and right under my jaw line. Neck is still a struggle. I wear a goatee so the "tough" areas of my face I don't shave. I shaved my goatee once for my wife and she couldn't wait for it to grow back.

Go slow was the best advice I received when I first started so I will pass that on to you.:biggrin1:
