Another Cowboy Boot Thread

Hey All

I'll be celebrating my one year anniversary as a Texan in a week or so, and now is the time for me to take the plunge on some new boots. I haven't owned and cowboy boots since I was a kid.

My question is this:
I've narrowed down my selections to either Lucchese or a small Austin company called Heritage Boots. Do any of you have any experience with either or both of these brands? Suggestions? Advice?

It's going to be one of these brands for sure, so I'm not really interested in Ariat, Justin, etc.

Thanks!

I used to travel to El Paso all the time and would visit the Luchesse factory Store there all the time. Just about all the "Texas" boots are now made in Mexico and I don't think the quality is the same however the Luchesse's I have are top notch. They are pricy. I don't know about the other brand you mentioned.

Buy local. Or just head into a quality boot store. They'll help you out. Remember that it is a bit of a purchase. Get a good pair. I'm not big on boots, but I'll wager I get a pair at some point. Even if it's just because I miss the state and am living somewhere else.

Just be nice. And remember, every boot looks best with dark jeans (Wrangler or Levi's make the best bootcut pairs, which aren't totally necessary unless you already wear fairly loose jeans), a little bit dirty and scuffed up - like they've seen some work. Unless you get dress boots, in which case you'd best polish them.

I'm really letting my Texan words in too much.

I would suggest to get whatever is comfortable and good quality. Don't limit yourself to just two brands; certain brands just might not fit your feet. Good boots ain't cheap, and a well maintained pair will last years. Pick up some some conditioner, a brush, and shoe trees to maintain them. I'd reccommend Rochester Shoe Tree Company.

I use to sell boots here in El Paso, and as mentioned above, the quality is horrendous now. I would stick with Lucchesse though. They do make a nice boot. Better yet, There is a member here that makes custom boots. I cant remember his name, but im sure a search of boots on the forum will turn him up. If I ever cross near his city, ill be getting a pair made.

I was in Houston last week and stopped by Morado Custom boots to be fitted for a pair of boots. Mr Morado took the measurements and made tracings of my feet and told me they should be ready in 8 weeks or so. The process was extremely enjoyable and I look forward to a fine pair of boots in a couple of months. I'll let you know how they turn out if you'd like.

I think its DustinL who is the bootmaker. This is the route I would take hands down.

Can't go wrong with Lucchese. I enjoy my full quill ostrich 1883's. Bought them last summer after I wore out my calf skin 2000's. That took almost 8 years to do. :thumbup1:

Thanks for the feedback fellers. I PM'd Dustin and now I'm just waiting for a response. Does anybody know if he has a website for his boot making?

EDIT: I looks like Justin hasn't posted in a couple of months, or even signed in for several weeks. Anyone have another bit of contact info?

I'm pretty sure those are the ones that sold me on Lucchese to start with.

Are they?:

Can't go wrong with full quill ostrich. Especially in black. :thumbup1:

How much are you looking to spend? That'll help narrow the choices down.

Oh, and welcome to Texas.

Thanks! I've been in TX for a year next week. Most of these fall in the $300-$400 range...

For the record, here are pics of some of the other choices. Thoughts?

Heritage Boots uses Flash on their site, vs regular photos so I linked to the two I liked.

4. http://www.heritageboot.com/#collections/Heritage%20Men/Black%20Shark

5. http://www.heritageboot.com/#collections/Heritage%20Men/Longhorn

I have two or three favorites picked out already, but I am curious what you guys think...

IIRC Heritage also does custom work. It's been a while since I've been by there in Austin, however, and memory may fail me. You might check with them.

<hey -- do I get anything for my 100th post? lol>

I lived in Houston in the late 70's and visited the Justin HQ in Dallas to buy several hundred pair of boots that we used in a promotion for a volume incentive. They made me a good deal on lizard skin boots, belt, belt buckle, leather legal pad holders, and ostrich wallet. Still have all of it and some has never been used but it is beautifu. Was transferred to Seattle, SF, and Boston and most of the stuff stayed packed up. Oh, and I have a NOS bottle of Tequila from 1978 still in the glass decanter and display wooden box; but that is another story .........
