What's new

Another addition to the honing equipment.

After spending a fair bit of time weighing up the Shapton 30000 vs JNAT equations and deciding on the JNAT and then looking around the for the right one that met my criteria and buying it yesterday, I get offered a Shapton 30000 ceramic on glass at a price too good to refuse so now I'm going to add one of these to the honing regime.

Nice John!!

Ask Tom Blogget and glen how they use these, they are the only people I know of that use these. Mere mortals can't afford this hone.

Edit: if they can they probably have 4 or 5 Jnat that they prefer instead

The sheer volume of exquisite hardware you have is amazing, John. Anyone who says he's not jealous is LYING!

I had one blade done by Glenn on that 'stone'. It'll turn the thumb pad test into the rib cage test. Sharp is indisputable. Smooth - not as much. Your Jnats will likely give you better smoothness.

Nice John!

I got that one on BST awhile back for a price too good to turn down and haven't had a chance to use it yet. Between all my new stones and my slow testing it is taking awhile to get to it. Hopefully here shortly I'll give it a try.

Tom honed a razor of mine on the 30K PRO.
That razor is a beast!

I discussed a lot of honing & sharpening with Tom thru PM's.
Man, does he deserve his "obsessed sharpener" moniker :w00t:

From what I gather the 30K takes a lot of tweaking to get a good edge out of. But once you get it right, you are in for a treat.
It is actually so sharp that it feels somewhat sticky on the face.
And still it isn't harsh. And I have sensitive skin!

I think he only does 4 o 5 laps in general on the 30K PRO.
Before that he has taken the razor all the way thru the grits on Shaptons.

I know he is very busy at the moment with personal stuff, so he might not be able to chime in right away. But when he does, his experience is worth a lot regarding Shaptons :thumbup1:

Thank you. Well the description I was given by Maxim is Nakayama Asagi. I can't tell you any more than that and it unfortunately. I do like it though and it does leave a nice keen edge. Sorry John my hijack is over.
