An Emperor (sorta) fit for Wreck It Ralph

Hello all. Got some shop time today and was able to finish a project for a fellow forum member, Doc226. For those of you who don't know Alfredo personally, he looks astonishingly similar to Wreck It Ralph- the dullard pictured below (no offense, Ralph ). Though they look VERY similar (both in appearance and countenance), Alfredo's shave is nowhere as BBS as Ralph's- a fact which has always haunted my friend to the north. (Just between the reader and I, I know we all love our hobby of wet-shaving but I really don't know how to counsel Alfredo when he mentions he is terribly envious of the closeness of a cartoon character's shave- but that is for another sub-forum.)

In an effort to help poor Alfredo improve his shave, I made him a brush. He wanted a large brush-something befitting his rather bulbous, livestock-sized dome-(think of George Costanza's head in the episode of Seinfeld when the guy won't lend George a cashmere sweater at the Christmas party because he is afraid George will stretch the neck hole out- only BIGGER). In a collaborative effort, we came up with a modified Emperor style handle fitted with a 30mm TGN Grade A Silvertip knot. Mind you, Alfredo special orders Tabac cast in a wooden rain barrel he keeps on his porch from which he loads his brushes. It takes A LOT of soap to shave a noggin' like that.

Handle: Alternative Ivory
Handle height: 54mm
Knot: TGN 30mm Grade A Silvertip
Loft: 48mm (trying to keep it low to maintain some backbone)

Threw this picture in to try and show the grain in the alternative ivory. It is one of my favorite acrylics.

No size comparison argument is valid without a scale. To the left, our much beloved Simpson Berkley. To the right, Wreck It Ralph's soap destroyer. Hope you like it, buddy!

Mods- I wasn't paying attention. I meant to post this in the brush maker/restoration sub-forum. Feel free to move it if necessary. Thanks and sorry.

Joe,

Excellent brush as always! The acrylic makers are really getting that alternate ivory grain pattern closer to ivory.
Looks beautiful!

That is just awesome. Can't wait to try out this bad boy.

Yes, I am envious of Wreck it Ralph's BBS shaves.

I much prefer these pic of Ralph

I only wish I could order the Tabac by the case.

Thanks Joe, great brush.

PS: I do look a bit like Ralph, much better looking of course.

Aaaahhhh - I think a fitting name for this brush, were our mutual friend given to such peculiarities, would be "beauty and the beast" :). What a wonderful work of craftsmanship, in all of its ginormous glory!

i do believe I understand now, the source of Doc's mystical and mythical essence, much lauded in the Straight Razor sub-fora. Quite simply, shaver"joe" puts the "jo" in "mojo" :thumbup1:

Thank you, sir. Yes, the grain pattern in the alternative ivory from pennstateind is very nice. It is a "softer" acrylic and is a little easier to turn than some others, though it still requires frequent sharpening of one's tools. I'm not sure which gets used more when I turn acrylic- the lathe or the bench grinder.

Great brush, congrats. For anyone who doesn't know Joe, he looks like a different Ralph....
