Amateur astronomers?

As if there aren't enough secondary and tertiary hobbies listed in the pages of this forum, here's another one to add to the list.

After searching through here, it looks like those of us who are interested in astronomy have posted about getting a subforum in The Great Outdoors for astronomy. It unfortunately looks like this hasn't happened yet.

Why not?

Now, let me qualify all of this by saying I'm a complete, utter, total newbie when it comes to astronomy. I picked up my first telescope at the ripe old age of 28 in a yard sale for $10, and it wasn't the cheap starter that you get at Wal-Mart, either. But I got it because I thought it would make for a fun father-son activity when my boy gets a little older.

I joined a forum dedicated to astronomy and while they're nice enough over there, I don't feel like the level of feedback is what I'd expect from members of this forum. Over there, it seems like those folks already know everything there is to know about the subject and aren't too terribly worried about advising others on gear, etc.

So who else has a 'scope? Who pines over which eyepiece to get next? Who's mulling whether to purchase a right-angle finder or a red dot? Who likes reflectors over refractors?

Surely, there's a few of you guys here and I'd love to discuss these subjects with you. The overall personality of the folks on B&B is awesome. We treat each other with the utmost respect, seasoned veterans don't appear annoyed with newcomer's questions and they're generally people I'd have no problem getting a beer with.

Let's get this rolling, let's have some fun and teach each other about the night skies. Hell, let's find a B&B constellation and take this forum the the heavens. Most of all, let's have some fun with it.
