01. How did you find Badger and Blade and why did you become a member?
I had been toying with the idea of taking up DE shaving for a good long while, and I found searches for many things always took me to B&B. There was a mass of historical and technical details here, which I just read as an enjoyable resource. After I bought my first complete set up in the summer of 21 I would often visit to read comments. After a couple of months I thought why not join, if you are going to make a damn fool of yourself, why not do it on the worlds premier shaving forum? So, here I am. The members are amazing. Welcoming, generous and independently-minded.
02. When you did or if you are working, in general what did or do you do?
I worked for 3 decades getting some of the most disadvantaged folks good jobs, if they wanted them. It could be tough, as I had to work with small employers, as well as some very big brands, in order to get them on board. I was able to get most who I negotiated with to co-operate and it developed a momentum of it's own. I like to think I helped a few thousand families over the decades to improve their lives. I'm proud of that.
03. What part of the country where you were born do you like the most?
Tough one. When I was a kid in about 68-71 I lived in Southend On Sea in Essex. That was some of my happiest childhood memories. It had the longest pier (boardwalk) in the world, at 2.5 miles. I suppose it is closest to those New Jersey ocean side places that New Yorkers would go to for a day by the sea. At the moment it is the country around a town called Battle in East Sussex. It has a great forest a few miles outside where we camp in the spring summer and autumn.
04. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you go?
Probably Singapore. But as would have to be the Singapore of the 1930's, and as time travel is out, I will go with Southend On Sea.
There is a little town called Damascus, in Virginia. We have always wanted to see some of the Appalachian Trail and to live in a small U.S town.
It seems a really laid back place, and Mrs. Ladd and I would like to set up a small English style cafe (pronounced 'caff') These are close to U.S Diners, as they were in the 40's-90's, except they open early and close around 3-4pm. Most specialise in English breakfasts, which are excellent. We will serve English breakfasts and bacon sandwiches to hikers passing through. We would also sell hiking supplies and equipment. We can dream.
05. Do you have any hobbies or pastimes?
I like the outdoors, camping, a little bushcrafting, wildlife. I love history, aviation, I like a good book, and a game of chess is nice. I like a good beer, and yes, old Gillettes. 'Arko! scent research'
06. Why did you choose the avatar that you have now?
It seemed like a good idea. I was drunk at the time, but I think it's holding up ok.
07. If you could choose any person in the world, now or from the past, who would you like to sit down and have a drink with?
Granddad on my mum's side. He passed when I was little, and by all accounts, there was something magical about the man. I do have an interesting family.
08. What is something you'd like to do, but have not had the opportunity to do it?
Live a year in the woods. Get to be one with it. The wildlife, seasons. Corny I know. True though.
09. What is one thing or accomplishment in your life that you are proud of?
See #2.
10. What is one piece of advice that you would offer to people in general?
Always wear fresh underwear. You never know what the day may bring. And try to shave.
11. If you could have any super hero power, what would you choose?
To open cans and bottles, just by looking at them. Modest, but useful.
12. If you had to choose to be a kind of animal, what would you want to be?
At the moment I favour sloths. Both the 2 and 3 fingered ones.
13. What kind of music do you like?
Anything that has a catchy tune, and is capable of being played on a kazoo.
14. If you could be any movie character, who would you like to be?
Roadrunner. Roadrunner cartoons make me laugh.
15. If someone wrote a book about your life, what would the Title of that book be?
The Book Of Heroic Failure.
