Alternative to Proraso without menthol

I love my Proraso Sandalwood cream but after getting lots of itching the last two times I used it I'm pretty sure I've developed a sensitivity to the sandalwood oil. Bummer. Anyway, the green has way too much menthol for me. I like the new sensitive soap so I am going to try the new blue with aloe and vitamin E. neither of these is as potent as the greens.

Still, I'd like to find an alternative that gives an equally great lather but without any menthol if possible. I'm considering getting some Musgo Real but what else is out there? I'd like a non-menthol scent, something manly and barbershoppy if possible. What would you recommend?

Many thanks,
Scott

Personally, I'm tired of buying shaving products that irritate my face, so I am testing unscented soaps. Then I will use colognes and aftershaves that I know are okay for my scents.

I would rec any of the TOBS creams. I like the Avacado, it really lathers brilliantly, but as far as the manly barbershop scent it would fall a bit flat. Eton College is a great scent with more citrus notes, very good.

Of course, there is always Arko.

Musgo Real won't even come close to Proraso IMO. You could try Palmolive cream or Nivea Sensitive. Nivea irritated my face but the later was good. Palmolive has a good lather and a basic soapy sort of scent.

If you like the scent of Proraso green but don't like the menthol, then Razorock S. Maria would be the perfect cream for you.

For barbershop scents, there are so many. Erasmic, TOBS shave shop, TOBS Mr. Taylor's, and Mike's Barber Shop come to mind.

If you are considering Musgo Real, then I would highly recommend La Toja. La Toja and MR have similar scents, but La Toja is lighter in scent (more refined). It's not as slick as MR, but it works better than Proraso IMO and the scent is heavenly.

Give Trumpers Coconut a shot. Superb lather with a mild coconut scent and NO menthol. Another one would be CF Lime or Lavender. None of these has ever irritated my face and I have serious skin allergies !

If you like the Eucalyptus you have to check out RazoRock, S. Maria! Great fresh Eucalyptus scent no menthol and is slick as heck.

The Palmolive stick is a great performer and very cheap. Erasmic stick seems to have been re formulated and generally gets a big thumbs down as a shaving soap.

I started using Musgo Real creme last week and the biggest surprise was the lanolin overdose. Not the scent, the scent is ok and not overpowering. Can't go wrong with MR. I lather in a bowl and it can be tricky. The lather doesn't degrade visually with much water but you kill the glide. keeping adding a few drops and mixing until the lather turns silvery, the ballpark is somewhere around that point. After a few days all becomes natural.

I like to think of "La Toja" cream as a proraso without menthol and dare I say just as good or a better performer. Smells like shaving cream to me.

Proraso without menthol? Proraso white... Still has a lovely cooling effect with the aloe or tea tree or whatever is in it.

Proraso white contains menthol, according to the ingredient list on Amazon. I hear it is fairly mild, though.

Omega might be a good choice. I have the crema, which is really a croap I think, but they also make a soap, it seems. Proraso and Omega used to be the same, or so I understand, but they aren't any longer.

Thanks for all the advice. I was looking for a barbershop secnt but the TOBS Grapefruit sounded too good to pass up so I ordered some with some blades I needed. Myabe I just miss eating grapefruit since I don't have it much any more, Lipitor :( I'll be filing all this info though, I'm sure I'm going to try some of these other creams later.

Thanks again,
Scott
