Alternate Soaps

I'm curious about what face/bath soaps that others have used with reasonable results.

When I shower shaved nearly exclusively, I usually used my shower soap of preference, Safeguard, and it worked very well in that hot steamy environment. When not used in the shower, I can get it to lather well enough (not great), it provides sufficient lubrication, but leaves my face somewhat dry feeling. Since discovering Badger brushes again, I seldom shower shave any more.

When I travel, I usually use Col Conk Bay Rum using a travel container for the soap. When I have run out, left it home, or just want a change, I found that the soap provided by Hampton Inn works very well.

What have any of you found to work, at least well enough?

I can tell you what hasn't worked for me and that is the Swedish Sea Salt soap (it's actually made in the U.S.). It states right on the box that it's good for shaving, but I didn't find the lather very good. It has the salt granuales in it as well.... so it's scrubby. It's a great bath or shower soap..... but not a shave soap IMO.

Life is too short to shave using the lather from a bath soap.

That said, if I was forced to do so, I would choose Hugo Naturals and the competition isn't even close. This is the only bath soap I've ever used whose lather looks like a shave soap lather. Scents are nice, too.
