Almond Shaving Soap Recommendation ...

My Dad's birthday is coming up and I'd like to get him some almond scented shaving soap. He purchased some Trumper's almond scented soap and was very disappointed with the scent. He was looking for a sweeter almond, perhaps something like the almond creams made by Trumper's, TOBS, or even Harris. I've thought about just getting him a cream, but he seems to prefer soaps. Are there any options out there that I should get for him? The few reviews on Harris' Almond don't sound too promising, but there wasn't much in the review section. And I have a sample of Cella, which is probably too bitter for him. Does anybody have any recommendations? Would DR Harris be a good one? Or is there something else I should consider?

Definitely not in the same league as the other soaps mentioned, but Col. Conk Almond has a sweet smell and it worked well for me.

I recommend Cella. It's got a light bitter soapy almond thing happening. It's one of my favorite soaps. I haven't tried the Valobra or P.160 to compare though, but if it says anything, Cella is good enough that I don't feel the need to compare.

P160 is the almond scent. The DR Harris Almond, whilst a fantastic soap, is a very bitter almond scent whereas as other folk have said the P160 has the marzipan thing going on which I think is a wonderful refreshing scent.

Plus its absolute cinch to lather.

I'm fond of Almond scented shaving soaps and creams.

In my opinion, nothing beat the Acca Kappa 1860 Almond shaving cream, when it comes to performance.
It smells like frangipani cake.

My vote for the best scented cream goes to Truefit&Hill: it smells like a very good Amaretto.

For soaps, my vote goes again to Acca Kappa Almond soap. (nice wooded bowl as well)
Cella is a very good hybrid soap/cream, but the scent lacks "depth" imho.

Best regards,
Bart.

For a sweeter, marzipan scent, I would recommend the P.160. If you want a more natural almond scent, I would go with Cella. One option, since it will be a gift, is to pick up some and then get a wood bowl from Gentlemensbest with your dad's initials engraved in it. You can buy P.160 or Cella in a big block and take out enough to mold into the engraved bowl. Plus, you can keep the excess for yourself. :tongue_sm

D.R. Harris is a good soap, but is not strong on the "almond" scent. It has more of a clean, soapy scent to my nose.

Many thanks to all for the recommendations. I will be sampling some of the P.160 and the Harris Almond due to the gracious offer of Dave! Thanks, Dave!! The generosity of members in this forum never ceases to amaze me.

I'm just paying back the generosity I have received from others. I'm a big believer in PIF. You're welcome!

I have been looking for the same thing. Where can you buy P.160/Cella/Valobra/Acca Kappa Almond Soap? I haven't seen any of these anywhere.
