Almond scent comparison?

I'm familiar with the too sweet, even synthetic almond scent of Col. Conk Almond. Of the other almond soaps available, which comes closest to the scent of conk almond?

Discussions on performance are welcome as well. I'm particularly interested in D.R. Harris almond, as I may trade for some.

I've never used Conks before but I've used D.R.'s soap and cream and they smell good, more woody than nutty IMO but also great products. Cella has a nicer scent of almond but it has a nice sweeter smell with a marzipan taste to it.

P.160 has an even sweeter scent than Col. Conk Almond. My other experiences with Almond soaps are Cella, Trumper's and D.R. Harris. Cella has a somewhat bitter scent. Trumper's has a floral scent with a bit of sweetness. The best I can describe D.R. Harris as is powdery. In order of performance I rate them: D.R Harris, Trumper's, Cella, P.160, Col. Conk.

P.160 is an almost exact match.

Valobra comes next, but has an undertone of bitter almonds too.

Acca Kappa emphasises the flowery aspect of almonds (almond blossom?), with a noticable whiff of sweet almonds too.

D.R. Harris is all flowery almonds (again the blossom?), nothing like the sweetness of Col. Conk and P.160.

Cella has a whiff of bitter, roasted almonds, barely enough to cover the yucky smell of unscented saponified fats.

There are other producers of almond scented soap, but these are the ones I've tried.

I just had an almond-off between DR Harris, TOBS, and T&H creams. Can't comment on pucks. Harris was nuttier and kind of sedate until lathering with it, then it just kinda opened up into a perfect almondy smell. Not too sweet. The other two were more amaretto-ish.

Hi,

I use Cella & P160 Morbido as my goto soaps.

The aroma of these (and Valobra) is pretty much as has been described.

Cella does have a 'fatty' aroma, but it is not off putting for me :001_smile

Have fun !

Best regards

Russ

valobra. Valobra. VALOBRA!

Granted it's the only almond shaving soap I've used. But it has a wonderful dessert fragrance and I like the way it performs. Plus you can shape it to whatever container you have, without having to grate it.

For a scent reference, soap up your hands with some Dr. Bronner's Almond Soap. I just realized that for me the scents are very similar. YMMV.
