"airing out" shu

so since i have a shu and its been said that shu gets better if "aired out" how exactly is this done.. do you just leave the cake/brick sitting there or do you have to unwrap it... or perhaps break it up?

If the shu fits...

Some people like breaking up their cakes into small nuggets and leaving the results in jars; some people like to break off a small piece for drinking, and let it air before drinking.

Given that tea is hard to store if it's all broken up, I don't break up my tea. :ihih:

If I'm drinking shu, I usually plan it a few days in advance these days. That way, a few days before drinking, I can break off a piece that I will brew from my cake/brick and let it air out by itself before brewing. If it's aged I don't bother with a few days, I'll just brew it whenever.

I may let a piece of young pu air out overnight before using the next day but often don't remember or plan ahead. Therefore, I usually handle the wo dui smell with an extra rinse. Aged pu, IMHO, does not need to be aired out.
