Agua Lavanda

I'm looking to adding more to my cologne collection. I'm definitely going to be getting some Paco Rabanne.

I was also looking at some Agua Lavanda. It looks to be a nice clean scent, and very affordable (about $15 for 25 ounces--cheap isn't even the right word!).

The only issue is that a lot of the notes are the same as the Paco. Would it make sense to get this, because it appears to be a similar, albeit weaker fragrance to the Paco. That $15, though cheap, could go to something more distinctly different.

Thanks mucho

I haven't tried Paco, but I ran into something similar. I have Agua Lavanda and I just got a sample of Caron Pour Un Homme. Both are sweet, but the Caron is much more so-- the to extent that I really think of Caron as a old woman scent.

I think you'll find the AL to be sweeter smelling that the Paco and therefore less masculine.

If you are referring to Agua Lavanda Puig, that is one of my favourites "summer-no-nonsense-splash", as it is very fresh....and cheap!

Caron 3rd Man is a MUCH better lavender than Pour Un Homme... At least to my nose.

I like 3rd Man too--much better than Pour un Homme. It has a strong lavender note that reminds me in some ways of Creed's Bois du Portugal. Except, for the price of the Creed, you could fill a trough with 3rd Man.

I'm guessing you're referring to Agua Lavanda Puig? I haven't smelled Paco Rabanne in years, but if my memory is anything to go by, it smells nothing like the Puig, despite what the listed notes of each might be. Puig is a nice lavender cologne - not the most sophisticated in the world, or the most natural, but nice all the same. Given its price, you're not risking much in trying it. And in case the story hasn't already been burned into your brain by relentless overtelling, it's fun to note that Frank Sinatra wore it after his former favorite, Yardley, was discontinued. (Unlike many celebrity-fragrance rumors, this one has been confirmed; Nancy Sinatra has stated the Puig was one of Frank's staples.)

If you meant this Paco Rabanne:

I can definitely confirm you that they do not resamble at all, I have both at home and are very different, as a matter of fact In used the PR a few times just because it was there (unwanted gift), but do not like it much, but the Agua Lavanda goes very well after a shower in summer, very refreshing....

Mandrake confirmed what I thought. As it happens, my girlfriend dragged me to Sephora last night, and they had Paco Rabanne. It smells the same as I remember, which is to say nothing like the Puig lavender. I will say, though, that in smelling it I was reminded of a time when fragrances sold at department stores actually smelled like something I might want to wear, rather than most dreck made today for that market. I was also surprised at how expensive the Paco is; it's pretty much in the same range as other "designer" colognes these days. The Puig is definitely the better deal.

Like the Puig Agua Lavanda, it's inexpensive done right, as opposed to cheap. Paco - much more herbal than Lavanda.

And for the record: I like Pour Un Homme more than Third Man. But I like Yatagan more than either.

What's funny is that I got neither Agua Lavanda nor the Paco. I will be getting some Trumper Wild Fern at some point.

I've been planning on picking up some Yatagan too. The wormwood note intrigues me

I quite like Yatagan but I'm guessing it's been reformulated since I got my bottles in the last year or so - a friend ordered samples and complained about it being flowery - whereas the Yatagan of a few years back smelled of an old oak fireplace, plus browning pine needles. If it smells unlike the previous reviews and descriptions, that would be why. Caron has been hard at work gutting some of their older, classic, offbeat scents.

Gentlemen,

My recent re-discovery of Agua Lavanda Puig is like running into an old friend. Thanks to you for mentioning it in the B&B forum.

I had used it years ago and loved it. I still love it. The scent is clean and fresh, the lavander well balanced with neroli, some citrus, and who knows what else. I liken it to Tabac. The two smell differently, of course. The similarity is in their overall clean, fresh and soapy fragrance that is brushed with a garden of flowers.

Best of all, my wife likes my old friend Agua Lavanda Puig and that pleases even more.

Thanks again, gentlemen, for helping me find an old friend.

Regards,

Obelit
