Aftershaves That Cause Acne?

Hello all,

I, being a teenager who is prone to them, was wondering if any aftershaves caused breakouts. I figured having a nice smelling face is much less noticable than having one with pimples covering the lower half. If any of you guys have had any problems, I would appreciate it if you could describe the problem and what brand & line of aftershave caused it.

I suffered from acne for years, and any aftershave with alcohol would set me off. Something about the alcohol would really get my acne going.

Everyone's skin is different, so what worked for me may not work for you, but I would suggest you give some alcohol-free aftershaves a try. My acne has basically disappeared and now I can use anything, but I still enjoy using some nice gentle balms from time to time.

Any aftershave can cause acne issues. The most common issue people have with aftershaves is the alcohol in some of them drying out the skin. So if you have a issue with acne I would try and avoid alcohol based aftershaves or at the very least follow them up with a good moisturizing lotion.

Experiment with some sensitive skin or oil free balms. You can always spray on an EDT of your choice for fragrance later.

You may want to try witch hazel, it does not smell good, but has been known to help some with acne.

Do you mean acne, or just breakouts/pimples? Totally different things.

I thought I had acne but it was ingrown hairs.

That's why I changed to DE shaving and ONLY with the grain.

XTG already gives me a lot of red dots.

I did not even dare to shave ATG.

I have good results with Nivea after shave balm. No acne at all.

My wife runs a Clinque counter at a large chain store and I asked her this question. She explained that an alcohol based AS can strip the skin of oils, which tells the skin to ramp up oil production. If you're prone to acne outbreaks, she recommends NOT using an alcohol based AS, also avoid using one with oils in it. Good luck ;-)

^ This. What works or doesn't work for others won't necessarily be the same for you. Randomly polling isn't going to help. You need to understand your own skin and how it reacts to things and then shop using that knowledge.

For me, it's rarely a problem and has nothing to do with my AS. There are other factors (mainly stress and diet) that cause it for me.

I just learned that the drying out of skin will cause acne. Blew my mind. For years I had tried to dry out my oily skin. I still have been using my aftershave, but I picked up a CVS brand oil free moisturizer for acne prone skin. If has worked really well.

Witch Hazel is a very good skin conditioner. Check out Thayers, cent is better then other WH and has Aloe Vera.

For me I try to stay away from A/S that has a high content of Hydronated Castor oil.

My face doesn't like Pinaud Clubman. Dries me out like jerky in a smokehouse.

I pretty much just use Nivea ASB now....

i'm a doctor, i have been use floid,no problems,my skin is oiled heavy,
moisturizer is the best, i have nivea white bottle.
so,proraso pre/post are great too for this situation
