aftershave?

I want an aftershave that is thick. I thought balm was supposed to be thick, and I bought some from man's bear, and it's just a little thicker than a splash. I'm after something that is cologne scented, but thick. I know most colognes make an aftershave, but I'd rather not spend $50 for a small bottle. Thanks for any help.

sounds like you want an aftershave lotion. I categorize aftershaves in 3 categories.

splash: consistency of water
balm: consistency of milk
lotion: well...lotion. It's thicker than all the rest, does not "run" when in your hand.

I don't know of any lotions that smell like cologne, but Evelyn & Crabtree make a great "balm" that is more along the lines of my definition of an aftershave lotion. The sandalwood smells great as well as the lime.

Problem is many "splashes" are "lotions" according to the label. "Balm" can be a variety of consistencies. Most of them don't have particularly long-lasting scents.

I like QCS balms a lot. They look pricey given quantity, but you only need a tiny amount, so they last. The Esquire scent lasts longer than the scent in most balms, and is a really surprisingly good sandalwood/citrus mix. Surprised me, anyway, since I'm not in love with the idea of that combination at all.

Razorocks Aftershave "Wax" is thicker, still, and good stuff. But I don't know if any of them qualify as a "cologne" like scent. (I'm not even sure if the QCS does, really, but it's closer, maybe!)

This may be out of budget, but T&H's balms are quite thick, and their 1805 and Grafton (and Freshman if they make a balm that scent) are all great options. Crabtree and Evelyn's balms/lotions are quite thick as well and also are cologne-esque.

I am enjoying A/s lotion available at Bath and Body Works $12, called Ocean...they have many other scents and matching products (body wash, Edt etc)

I was just checking out one of the vedor's on here, SCS, and a lof of their aftershave balms/lotions might also be what you're looking for.

I can't believe I never came across that vendor until now.... Guess I'll be feeding my AD a little more!

I know what you're talking about. Ordered some st James lotion after shave, and it had as picture of a splash, I just figured it was a misinterpretation of something, but it wasn't.

Got a link, couldn't find them.

After Shave Lotion = splash.

After Shave Balm = balm.

This is the standard terminology for these products.

Get yourself some aftershave wax from Joe at Italian Barber. It's not a strong scent, but it's thicker than a balm and makes your face feel great. You only need a little bit.

Proraso with menthol lotion aftershave is a liquid. Thats all the experience i have with lotions, but id always associate that word with a runny liquid like water.

Trumpers Skin food on the other hand is a much thicker liquid, like a gel. Id recommend it as an aftershave product, i have a bottle of the Sandalwood and a bottle of Lime skin food. It goes a long long way you only need a small dollop on your fingertip to cover your whole face and neck.

Travis.
