Advice re "Barbers Special" strop?

Saw one in an antique shop today. Barbers Special, Kwik Edge, with the number 26 in a circle. Two strops fastened at one end. The top strop, with the printing on it had a few nicks in it. The bottom one looked used but undamaged. The inner side of both looked essentially untouched. One you could see - I dunno, the pores of the skin? the holes where the hair had been pulled out? Anyway a pattern of fairly regular small holes in it. They wanted $28.00 (Can.) for it. Is that a deal? Or much too high? I didn't measure it. Looked to be about 3" wide. If the consensus (or majority opinion) is that the price isn't too far off fair market value, and I can still use it even with the couple of nicks I'll probably buy it. To be fair I have a paddle strop that I've put 4 or 5 nicks in, at the ends, and I still use it.

The same store also had several pretty china shaving mugs (or scuttles. I don't know when a mug becomes a shuttle), ranging from $32 to $45.

Two brushes. One I think was a Rubberset that looked to be in pretty fair condition. The other had a wooden handle, much like the cheap drug store ones, with the paint all scraped off, but the bristle was set directly into the wood of the handle, in individual 1/4" holes. Unfortunately the bristles themselves looked as worn as the handle and all bent to one side, as if the brush had been set down bristles down while it was wet. If I thought I could straighten the bristles I might have been tempted to buy it and try to repaint the handle without removing the bristles.

There was also a Schick Injector 1937 for $18.00, a Twin Plex Sharpener for $35, a Durham Duplex trimmer 1907, $21, a Genco straight with yellow celluloid scales, with a recess in the front scale, where there had once been some inlay. $14. And I think 3 Rolls Razors about $35 each.

Pretty much all of the prices I thought were a wee tad high. The mugs/scuttles were nice ("pretty" designs or flowers painted on them) and would be broken within a week if I tried to use them in our tiny bathroom. If anyone is interested in the mugs, I could see if the shop owner could get some details and pictures for you.

Well I went ahead and bought it. 2 3/8" by 24". 2 strops in one holder. Pat. No. 48430 stamped into the back of the metal holder. There was a lot of green wax on and inside the metal holder which appears to be brass plated steel. The gunk is probably verdigris from the brass mixed with oils from the leather. Anyway, I unscrewed the holder and brushed out the worst of the green, and tried to clean it with Silvo - very limited results. I'll have to find a better cleaner, and in the long run may want to get the holder replated. I also need to pick up some neatsfoot oil or something similar.

Yeah. I bought these too. I keep this up my wife will get legal papers to give her power of attorney:bored: The Rubberset is in quite fair condition, but the knot is nothing special. I had read about a lower grade of bristle being bleached white and then a black ring dyed near the tip. I discovered that dyed ring is only on the outside bristles!
The other one has had most of the paint worn off it so I have no idea what make it is. I also discovered that the bristles aren't glued in 1/4" knots in individual holes in the wood. It is a normal knot with at least an inch of old soap hardened into it! Just soaking in hot water has removed most of the crunk, but phew! does it stink! Needless to say this one is going to get a thorough sanitizing. I'm going to try to mask the bristles and repaint this with the old knot still in it.
