Advice about cleaning a Double Ring

I need some advice from the experienced members concerning whether or not I should clean the double ring that I found yesterday. It is physically in very good shape, but the plating is thinned. Much brassing on the knob and handle:

Now I did clean the New Improved Big Fellow (found with the double ring) using the Aluminum, salt, baking soda method, along with tooth brushing with tooth paste. Got these results:

So here is the question: Should I clean the double ring like I cleaned the Big Fellow - exposing more silver and brass, or leave it be and admire the years?

thanks,

Jim,

On the Double Ring i once owned, I did the Scrubbing Bubbles treatment on it and lightly polished it with Maas and a 100% Cotton rag. It shined up wonderfully without further damage to the plating. Member mkevenson now owns it. Maybe he will chime in and tell you how he maintains/polishes it.

For what it is worth, the baking soda/aluminum foil trick is not supposed to remove any additional plating. My understanding of the process is that it actually reverses the tarnishing process itself. Thus, unlike using a polish, which does remove silver, it ensures that the most silver possible is preserved. So, I don't think you would do any harm to the plating by using the baking soda/aluminum foil trick. If it was me, I would probably clean it up. But if the plating is pretty thin, I would be hesitant to use a polishing agent (toothpaste or whatever) after the baking soda/aluminum foil trick.

I have two Double Rings. I have used the baking soda/aluminum on the 1905 model but the 1904 with no serial number has not been polished at all. The natural patina on that razor is quite attractive. I agree with Michael in that respect.
