Adjust adjustable, which way?

This is going to seem like a stupid question but when adjusting a fatboy or other razor are you supposed to adjust the dial before or after you close/lock the doors?

Thought I saw this somewhere but 1 hour of searching has proved fruitless.

Before. Then give it that extra half-twist after the doors close to be sure you lock it down.
