Adding Witch Hazel to aftershaves with alcohol?

Has anyone done this? I was thinking of putting some into AV and whatever else I had to make it more "skin-healing" or whatever, but wasn't sure if it would jive well.

It can't hurt. Just remember MOST WH's already contain Alcohol, not that it really matters, just might be more drying.

Some aftershave already have witch hazel in them and they work well. If you put too much AS and the alcohol content goes low, the AS splash will become cloudy. It shouldn't affect the AS as Witch Hazel is very good for you. You will affect the scent however.

If you just want to test it, pour the AS and witch hazel in your hand instead of mixing in a bottle. It should give you an idea of what will happen.

I have done this with three different aftershaves (SCS sandalwood, Proraso green, Speick). I mixed in 25% Thayers AF WH with 75% aftershave. It was just fine... didn't affect the scent but it made it a little cloudy. Did it work better? I really don't know but it took some of the initial sting out a little bit but not enough to make a difference.

IMO, adding WH to an aftershave is a good way to use less of the expensive product and bring down the overall cost per shave. But if your aftershave is not expensive anyway, (i.e. AV, OS, Brut, Proraso), then you're really not adding much.

I'm adding WH to my TOBS sandalwood because it's already heavily scented and it does not contain WH.... prolonging the life is also an added bonus.

FWIW, I would NOT add WH with alcohol... I would ONLY add Thayers unscented AF witch hazel because that will not in any way alter the scent of your favorite AS.

Not sure if this helps but, I spray a little WH on the face befor applying Brut AS. I find it leaves skin feeling less tacky and fresher. The scent is not affected at all.

I often mix all kinds of things into my splashes and balms. WH is always part of that mix and it seems to do nothing but help:thumbup:

Today was the first day I added some WH and a little glycerin to my Masters BR...I used this then some Proraso White balm; it seemed to help a little more with my dry skin and although I don't usually get razor burn, my face and neck look fine. If something changes drastically I'll post more about it but honestly, it hasn't changed the BR scent and can't hurt to add it IMO.

I mix unscented WH 50/50 with pretty much every aftershave I use now. It reduces the burn, softens skin, and really helps reduce burn. It does not seem to alter the scent at all.
