What's new

AD.How did yours progress?

OK, I've been at wet shaving for about 2 months now. I have since been using the same razor, proraso green pre, cream, & AS with an Omega 48 + Astra SP. I have managed to hold off on any new additions except for vintage Gillettes of which I'm up to 7 now!

MUST STAY STRONG......

I have no shaving related AD, but my FPAD went as follows:

Got interested in fountain pens, because I found my old school pen back.
Learned about nibs, filling systems, materials, and so on.
Discovered vintage pens.
Ended up with more pens than I could ever use.
Realized that I had gone overboard, and sold most of them, keeping those that had a special meaning to me.

Stupidly enough I also sold my old school pen ... that is my only real regret.

I had the desire to buy a lot of things at first but not anymore.

I have bought 5 DEs and given away 2 of them.
I have 1 shavette
I've reduced my soaps to 3, and creams to 3 although I don't use the creams.
I have 2 brushs
1 ASB
1 bottle of Thayers
About 300 blades

I don't plan on getting anything else unless I need it, such as when all my soaps are gone I'll buy a new one but not 2 or 3.

I have AD. I started with a Weishi, then a Slim, then two TV Specials, then a EJ DE 89L, then a Cadet OC, and the latest, a Rocket HD. And here it stops. At least here is where RAD stops. And, where BAD begins.

It all kind of hit at once for me. I ordered a second razor before I had even received my first.

Now after a month, I have

19 soaps and creams
2 brushes
5 aftershaves
3 colognes and
20 razors.

I need to stop.

I've purchased a number of items with the specific goal of learning what I like and narrowing down the stash. The goal is a small number of items that I like personally. I'm trying to avoid stupid buying. Soaps are down from 6 to 3 now for example.

Fortunately, I learned from my previous guitar addiction. I acquired more guitars and related items than I could ever use...and finally realized my talent was below average at best. I just didn't possess the finger dexterity to be even a decent club guitarist. Also, I knew from previous musical experience in school that improvisation was not something I was gifted in, and improvisation and imagination are the key to writing music. When an employment related crisis mandated that I sell some things I was relieved of my fantasy and luckily will not be going back, although I would like to have a nice acoustic and one Les Paul just to plink around on.

I am trying to approach shaving in a new way. I do have 4 vintage Gillettes and would like to try out a few more. However, at the end of it all I will narrow it down to a few favorites that I like to shave with and will have restored and re-plated. I want to try a few different cremes and soaps, but it's not a burning desire that I can't control. I just bought a Kent BK8 after much research and waiting for a great deal. I do not have the desire to collect multiple brushes. I do want to stock up on the blades I like so in case they stop being produced I will at least have a stash while I find something new.

I think I will be able to control this and keep my investment reasonable. Luckily, this is an affordable hobby when compared to guitars and amps.

The thing is; I had a Mühle R89, and then I bought a vintage Gillette Rocket. I found out that I could get a great shave with both, so I decided to sell one of them.

The Mühle had to go; I cannot get used to the idea of having a cheap zinc alloy under the chrome.

Now I have two system razors (Trac + Atra), and a DE (Rocket HD) ... a great setup for a good shave under all circumstances.

I've always had a bit of a personal products/software AD. Even when I was shaving with carts, I would have a number of creams. gels, preshave products, etc. Same with shampoo and conditioners, soap, etc.

Since I started using a brush that naturally expanded to soaps, croaps and creams. Interestingly I see blades as "firmware" of sorts,. I have acquired a lot of samples. It remains to be seen if that develops into a thing, too.

I don't see myself acquiring a lot of hardware, though. I have two, perfectly nice razors. I can seem myself getting a few more down the line--but they would likely be different styles:slant, open comb, SE, etc. Same with brushes. I'll probably pick up a good boar and at some point it time, I'd like to get a custom made brush and one from the big makers that get so much praise here. But for now, my razors and brushes suit me just fine. This leaves me more money to spend on lathering product---and booze and cigars.

Started DE wet shaving in January, and so far, the only AD I have is for Aftershave. :biggrin1:

I've got 4 vintage Gillette Razors, with a nice Double Ring on the way and a Muhle R89. I think I'm done with Razors, except for maybe a slant.

I have one two creams, 5 soaps and one brush. And about 5 colognes.

All not too bad, but I also have:

21 aftershaves!

I'm good with Progress and Slant, Astra and Med Prep, and about ten not-too-costly brushes. But did you know there are a whole lot of soaps, creams, and *** out there??

I started wet shaving a few months ago. I started buying vintage razors like crazy and have two dozen now. I wanted to try different razors to get the best set up for a great shave.

Now that I have my favorite combinations of blade, razor, and cream, I have stopped purchasing razors and will try to sell a few.

I bought my first DE last july, a merkur 34c. I didn't start buying stuff until 5 months later.

From reading the previous posts I am about in the middle of the pack so far. That makes me feel better.

10 razors, all vintage.
6 brushes
4 mugs, 2 bowls
12 soaps, 4 creams
10 aftershaves
3 balms
200 blades

My first AD was shaving creams. That one has pretty much stayed with me throughout the 16 months I have been DE shaving.
In those early days, I was convinced that I would never have a problem with RAD.
SBAD has never really kicked in. I have 4 brushes and I have only bought 2 of those.
RAD has definitely arrived over the last 6 months. Nothing ridiculous but I have at least a dozen razors now.
Blades has been a recent AD. Again, nothing too drastic but I am suddenly on the wrong (right?) side of 600 blades.
So there you are I have a few ADs but have plenty of scope for more!

I have been DE shaving for 5 months & have acquired just one brush & just four soaps. However, I do have minor RAD. I started with a Muhle R89, then moved onto a Merkur 41C (I really wanted a Merkur 11C but could not find one, as they are no longer made). Shortly after, I located an 11C & bought it. I could not see any more new razors I wanted, but was put off buying vintage razors, as I didn't like the thought of shaving with something a stranger had used. Luckily, I soon got over that phobia & added a Big Ben OC & Gillette New long comb to my arsenal. Having mainly open comb razors, I decided I had better try some safety bar razors & acquired four Techs (fat handle, ball end, aluminium handle & contract), as well as a Rocket HD & a Slim adjustable. In between, I went back to my OC habit & bought a used Tradere OC. I have had good to excellent shaves (& a few bad ones!) from all my razors, but mainly use the Tradere now, as it seems to suit me best. I think my RAD is under control, though I do like the look of the mk2 Feather, the Ikon OC, the Weber & the Above the Ties. I must be strong & not give in to temptation!

Yeah, you do.

You need to stop procrastinating and purchase more aftershaves!

I want all the great modern stainless razors, then some classic modern plated, and some vintage Gillettes along the way. I have a fantastic ATT brush thanks to Stan, and will buy a few miscellaneous items for my creams, which will be limited to two I think.
