Tonight’s luxury shave
RazoRock Hawk V3OC
Schick Proline P-series (9)
Damp washcloth aka “shave binky”
AP ShaveCo Cashmere 30mm synthetic brush
Pre-shave: hot shower and a minute of waterboarding with a hot shave binky
Lather: Col Conk Unscented, face-lathered
Aftershave: Ulm Nom
Post-shave: face wash with cold shave binky
Post-shave: Neutrogena Hydro Boost gel cream

Was scratchy all day. Woke up with almost as much stubble as before last night’s shave except for the chin. Used hot water on my shave binky and held it against my skin for just over a minute, ran my brush under hot tap water, lathered up, and went at it. Shallow ATG with a light touch and just a modicum of j-hooks on neck and a little skin stretching here and there (very sparingly) to end up close enough for the win.

After a long stretch of cool and cold water, using warm water felt good. The lather was easier for me to adjust to my liking. Doubt I learned anything, though.

This week is another of the sample soap theme weeks. You know what it's like, we all get soap samples from time to time. I pick a week to use some of them up.

Todays soap is Signature Soaps Hibernia. An absolute delight to lather and really is a step up from the other samples I have been using this week. Had a Mail Drop from Southern Witchcrafts so finished off with some Lycanthropy splash which complimented the soap perfectly.

My AC razor today was the ATT SE1.

All the AC razors I've used are top tier amongst safety razors, but which is the top tier razor of my AC platform group.

(I've not used the SE2 in so long that my memory of its shave is hazy so I'm counting it in this group just yet. Also, my Hawk v3 hasn't arrived yet.)

Happy shaves,

Jim

Well it's official. Last night I got a promo email from Blackland, Vector scratch and dent for 30% off. I ordered one, but I will have to wait for Christmas to use it. I can't wait to unwrap this present!

Razor: ATT X1
Blade: Kai Mild (7)
Brush: Omega boar
Soap: As Always, OH Peppermint Trip

Even as the blade fades from whacking through my stiff hair I still had a lovely, lovely shave. I'm also glad to see some other fellows discovering this razor. I heard a CBC announcer whom I know spent some time in Manitoba lapsing into PrairieSpeak, and I'll follow up:

"She's an absolute bird of a razor!"

Well. Blade's done and I want to turn my attention briefly to OCtober, so I'll move over to that thread on Monday.

O.H.

Tonight’s luxury shave
RazoRock Hawk V3OC
Schick Proline P-series (1)
Damp washcloth aka “shave binky”
Simpson Wee Scot 13mm badger brush
Pre-shave: hot shower and a few splashes of hot water
Lather: Col Conk Unscented, face-lathered
Post-shave: face wash with cold shave binky
Post-shave: Neutrogena Hydro Boost gel cream

I was going to use a felt wheel loaded with buffing compound on my last blade to see if that would bring it back, but forgot until after the blade was changed.

The Wee Scot doesn’t match up with the Col Conk Unscented as well as it does with the Canada Shaving Soap, but the AP ShaveCo Cashmere brush is still easier for me to use with both soaps. A little brush burn, but not much.

Aside from the aforementioned items, shave was an uneventful shallow ATG for about two passes with only a tiny bit of Adam’s apple and chin not trimmed as close as wanted. Close enough, though.

Razor: Razorock Hawk V3
Blade: Kai Captain Titan Mild Pink SE, 5th use
Brush: Simpsons Chubby 3 Sovereign Grade
Bowl: Captains Choice Heavyweight Copper Bowl
Preshave: PAA Cube 2.0 Soap
Soap: Surprise Sample Croap
Balm: Southern Witchcrafts Valley Of The Ashes Balm
Additional Care: Shave Tunes Courtesy Of An Italian Opera Playlist
Additional Care: Wife Sniff Test = Not Too Bad At All

This week is another of the sample soap theme weeks. You know what it's like, we all get soap samples from time to time. I pick a week to use some of them up.

Todays soap is Signature Soaps Eboracum. An absolute delight to lather and again really is a step up from the other samples I have been using this week.

I have been having issues some days with razor tugging recently. This morning I put two and two together and came up with the PAA shave cube. Did that on one side of my face and Proraso pre shave in the other then lathered up. The difference was night and day. It was causing tugging and skipping and is now relegated to the shower.

Had a Mail Drop from Southern Witchcrafts so finished off with some Valley of the Ashes splash which complimented the soap perfectly.

Anyroadup, it's autumn, it's not raining and in my spare time I'm a woodland macro photographer so it's off out on the great mushroom hunt.

SS Hawk v3.

10-15-22.Hawkv3.CK-6.Shavemac.640.JPG

Yet another excellent or nearly excellent AC safety razor.

My first shave with it went very well except I ended up with a couple of super minor weepers or tiny nicks or something on my soul patch. I'd noticed the razor felt a little rough there as I performed my puffed lip ATG strokes.

OTOH, ATG on the upper lip, the testing ground for smoothness and blade feel, the razor felt great.

It's quite efficient.

I'm glad I acquired the Hawk v3.

Happy shaves,

Jim

I shaved a fortune
I'm amazed.

Undoubtedly the preshave routine and products I use won't work for everyone.

Happy shaves,

Jim
I switched things up last shave... I still used the Cube 2. in the shower but used Grooming Department Pre-shave instead of the Tube. I think the GD works a little bit better. It ends up giving a pretty thick lather and mixes very well with Canada Shaving soap. I end up face lathering with my SV brush, adding water as needed.

Tonight’s luxury shave
RazoRock Hawk V3OC
Schick Proline P-series (2)
Damp washcloth aka “shave binky”
Simpson Wee Scot 13mm badger brush
Pre-shave: hot shower and about a minute of waterboarding with a warm shave binky
Lather: Col Conk Unscented, face-lathered
Aftershave: Ulm Nom
Post-shave: face wash with cold shave binky
Post-shave: Neutrogena Hydro Boost gel cream

Solved the Wee Scot issue: swirled the brush lightly over type soap longer than I had been. So yay that.

Also rediscovered how to chase the popping sensation while shaving shallow ATG resulting in a close and comfortable result. Found it after what I thought was a light touch wasn’t bringing desired results and going steep seemed equally ineffective.

ACtober of the day

Razor: “polished’”stando rod brass
Blade: feather pro super
Soap & AS: WSP formula-T
Brush: SOC boar

I polished a stando rod brass.
I used 1000-2000-3000 waterproof sandpaper, a jewelry polishing cloth, and a great Japanese abrasive liquid polish 'PIKAL' to finish it off!

What was originally a smooth, autopilot razor has been transformed into an unusually smooth and efficient razor:)
I am so happy.
