What's new

About ready to ditch the Feathers.

I'm on a path toward minimalism and have it down on blades to Feathers and Meds. Now looks like the Feathers are the next product to bite my dust.

The Meds seem to last 5 shaves or so and end in the need for an extra pass while the Feathers can't make it to 5 and end with some irritation. The Meds never underperform a Feather on my face either. So when this batch is gone...

Agreed. They're a nice blade, but don't keep up with the Med Preps and cost more. That's a bad formula.

I'm down to Polsilver Si's

Never cared for Feathers, personally. I've yet to try a blade to make me want to move on from IPs, which is good, because I still have about 50 of them. Haven't tried med preps, but if you like them, and they're cheaper than Feathers, it's a no brainer, IMO.

Why meds as opposed to blues?

I have a three blade rotation: Blues, Gillette Yellows, Feathers. I love the shave of a Feather, but I have tremors, and unless my tremors are very calm, I will cut myself with a Feather. The Blues and Yellows are just because I can't decide between them. To me, both are not quite as sharp as a Feather, but much more forgiving.

Good to see that I'm not the only one who did not cared for the Feathers. Bunch of ingrown hair and I did not find them to be as smooth as most say. Of course, YMMV, but not for me. For some reason my face seems to like cheaper blades, and I'm OK with that.

I get irritation from the Feather Hi Stainless (black and silver pack) but not from the platinum coated blades (yellow pack)

The blades in the black pack and the ones in the yellow pack are exactly the same blade. No difference whatsoever. So the problem is in your mind, not in the blades.

Feathers are sharp as all get out and give me an OK shave the first shave, but second shave they tear me up. They are NOT a smooth blade, at all. Treet carbon are far smoother!

Bic blades are as sharp as feather, but as smooth as Lab blue, on my face. I'm testing the ONE that I have and if it makes it past 4 shaves, I will order 100. Then again, my Super Adjustable makes any smooth blade nice and aggressive and I get a good shave!

Feathers are unbeatable in my Weber; in other razors, meh. I get better results with Gillette 7 O'Clock Permasharps (India Greens), Med Preps, Russian Perma-Sharps, Racers, and Treets.

I like Feathers, but for me the Russian Perma Sharps shave just as close as the Feather, shave smoother than the Feather, last twice as long as the Feather and are a fair bit cheaper than the Feather so once my stash of 100 Feathers is gone I doubt I'll be buying many more.

I like Feather and Personna . I got a pack of Astras with my R89 this morning and found them to be the least forgiving of all the blades I've tried. However I had a very short growth and the second pass was unnecessary, it's just such I habit for me I forgot I didn't need it.
