would be a hughe difference on a good strop or a midium strop?

if so ... would be a very big difference on the edge and comftable shave?

... is really worth pay an popular expensive strop...? or is it something that is if you got extra money>?

What do you guys think about tony miller and scrupleworks strops?

thanks .

BJJ, I have a Tony Miller "plain vanilla" strop that I have had for close to a month now. It is the nicest strop I have had so far. I cannot compare it to any of the other brands you have listed because I have not tried them, but it is very nice and quality-built.
I can recommend the Tony Miller, especially for the price.

I don't think there is a difference in the shave. However, I have noticed that stropping the same razor on different strops feels and sounds different. Additionally, different types of leather feel different to touch, caress, etc.

I haven't tried a scrupleworks strop but have only heard great things. I have a TM Old No. 2 in steer hide, and can only say great things.

Worth the extra money? Depends . . . .

I don't think the shave is that affected by what it is stropped on, the experience of the stropping is very different on the different leathers.

I have 2 strops (SAD has not hit me) in my daily rotation.

A Kanayama 3 that I use for hollow grinds
A TM steerhide for fuller grinds

Both great, both different

There is a large difference between strops as the quality goes up. I have a Mountain Mike black latigo that I consider a mediocre beater. Next step up is a nicely made red latigo Bison, followed by a Dovo Feinsts Kern-Juchten Russian leather, Bison horsehide, and Bison cordovans. The performance and enjoyment of use steps up in accord with investment. Very much like the draw of a cordovan and the appearance of the materials and workmanship. The latigos are rougher and rustic with heavier draw. The horsehide, smooth, light, fast. Necessary, no. Worth it? No different than your choice in razors. If you can afford it, and it scratches an itch, might be. In the end they all perform the same base function.

Honestly paying more money for a strop is really just making you happy. They do the same thing. My 30 yard long Paladin made from tool grade leather does the same job as my laser-etched diamond Ambrose latigo. The former was half the price and comes with a linen component. But, it is not as slick :p

The only exception to this, IMO, is kangaroo leather. It does things slightly better and faster.

I couldn’t disagree more with anyone who says that allstrops do the same thing. The samefunction, ok, the same performance – definitely not. I’ve tried a lot of leather, cow, horse, thismaker and that. I’ve tried slopping thisstuff and that to gain all that my hide would yield only to become frustrated. Mr. Tony Miller’s Old Number 2 and aScrupleworks oil tanned cow hide changed my outlook for the better. Without a doubt I can tell a big differencein my razor’s edge after stropping on my Tony Miller as well as when I owned aScrupleworks. My Scrupleworks was a 3inch wide strop. I got into a tradingmatch with my good friend down in South Texas in order to obtain a narrowerstrop. I’m patiently waiting for Torolfto finish, package and send to me a 2.5 inch oil tanned horse hide that I wonfrom my trading. Seriously, I couldn’tbe happier with the performance of these two strop maker’s strops. Both strop makers are top notch gentlemen aswell. Save yourself some time, frustration and money. Go for the goodstuff from those who know how to produce leather for a razor. I don’t want to take anything away from anyother strop maker who may be a fine producer of an upper end strop. I haven’t found them is all. Then, I’m happy as is.

Very Respectfully

I have just received a 80k kanyama strop last week. Before, I used a kangooroo strop after having used a lot of medium quality strops and I can say now that there is a big difference between this kind of strops.
My shaves are very very sweet, in a minimum of time.
So, if you have the possibility to spare money, don't hesitate!

Having used 5 different strops of varying cost (all cow leather), I don't think any of them really make a difference to the shave. But I did find I prefer a 3" strop over a 2" strop - that's worth the extra cost any day.
I also don't love my latigo SRD strop. It's got a pretty tough draw, and I found I like a bit smoother draw.
But I wouldn't mind getting a roo strop and a cordovan strop. You know, for testing purposes.

I have tried well over ten different strops and I absalutley love the cordaven shell. not only des it fel perfect it puts a real nice finish on my razors, so its shell all the way for me , yes its expensive but worth every pound ..
