About Astra blades

Good morning,

I am a new member from north France, happy to be on this forum.

I have one question: when you speak about Astra blades, about which one is it? Astra Keramik (with blue package) or Astra superior (white and green package)? I would like to try, but i must know which ones.

An other question: which are the best blades: Astra or Iridium super?

Thank you for your answer

"Better" is a relative term, meaning that some people will prefer one and some will prefer the other. Out of those two I prefer the Iridiums but they are more expensive than the Astras as far as I know. Astras are also good blades though. Oh, welcome to B&B! :biggrin1:

Hi Marc and welcome!

The most common Astras are the Platinums in an olive-color package. There is also a "Stainless" in blue and white. The Keramik (red, white and blue) are, as far as I know, a discontinued item but there are still some around in the shops - or online stores.

I think the Astra Platinums are very good blades, and so are the Iridiums. Astras are usually a lot cheaper, and I think that on a value-for-money basis, they come out on top.

Bienvenu sur B&B!

What Dave & Tom said. I usually use the green olive/white package but Keramik are good too.

Between Iridiums and Astra, I prefer Astra but you might prefer Iridium, you will need to try them!

Thank you very much for your welcome so warm.

I use the straight razor since 30 years, but when I am pressedI use a Merkur Futur, faster for me. I like Gillette Bleue Extra, but i look for a blade more cutting.
I tried Feather blades, but i find them agressive. I tried so 7 o'clock, but I am on that it is exactly the same that blue extra. Only the packaging is different.

When I used de some years now I remembr the red and green astra blades..very good and stiff blades... Not cheap though..now I use Gem 1912 handle and Gem stainless steel wiPe clean blades for 3yrs now
Good Luck!

Thank you for your comments. I will try so. I pass my orders to ......... Shaving (in UK). He is cheaper than the French sites, with a wider choice.

Hello,

Are the Astra Platinums and the "Stainless" version similar in your experience (or anyone else's)? Thanks,

The Astra platinum and stainless versions are very similiar. The platinums seem to be a little smoother though.

Bonjour et bienvenue Marc59.

I've ordered Derby and Astra blades from a Turkish vendor on Ebay who offers good sample packs (Shark, Permasharp, Rapira), Arko products, fast shipping and very good prices.
I can give you his name if you want.

That's where I buy them too...And much cheaper than that other one!

Good morning, and thank you Icon le Stéphanois,

I am interested by this address.
In fact, I wished to share with our American friends of an English supplier, but impossible to seize his name.

It is regrettable because the French forums consider him as a reference, because it is about price list or about quality of service.

Marc
