What's new

about 6 months in from joining up

My little late year in review since joining up (~6 months ago)... sorry, a little text heavy

After going thru a CVS starter kit, I joined B&B, read up & got a nice set up: 89DE Jagger razor, EJ super badger, a styptic pencil and some Pre de Provence soap. I use a cool small candy tin with a portrait of King Henry the 8th on it for a blade bank.

After reading some postings, I quickly added a Bulldog handle because the chrome handle was too slick when wet. I now absolutley love the new feel & weight of the razor & Bulldog handle now. Also, after some more forum/post reading, I added a RazorRock alum bar to help with my learning curve razor burns & nicks. I picked up on Feather blades right away, but rotate in Astras now.

Since then I have gone thru a tube of Clubman shaving cream (loved it) added a cheap EJ boar brush (a new boar brush is probably my next upgrade), a tube of CO Bigelow cream, Van der Hagen soap puck, EJ sandalwood soap (haven't used, yet), Proaso splash (great stuff), Clubman aftershave (love all the clubman stuff I've used) , Barber's Choice Bay rum AS (biggest disappointment due to the lousy container I opted for - a bottle with ill fitting cap & open mouth(!)) though the scent goes well with some locally made , "Old Woodward" - Clove scented shave "butter" I picked up after reading a local newspaper article about it (a brushless cream-unusual product, a little pricey, very pleasant but also a very heavy cream, doesn't rinse off razor well. Maybe better suited for straight razor shavers(?)), Casswell-Massey Sandalwood Cologne (my wife likes it more than I do- she also bought me some CK Euphoria AS balm), a Vintage Gillette SS razor (which I don't use much, because I like my EJ w/Bulldog handle so much), a Razor & Brush stand, a dedicated shaving mirror, Clubman hair tonic, Kent hair brush, Swissco comb and upgraded the bath soaps I use (Musgo for example.)

A couple of other items I picked up - an old fashioned scuttle which looks cool, but I don't really use and an old Made-Rite beehive brush handle project - haven't worked on it, yet, thinking 2 band badger. :001_unsur

Also, just in, a Vie-Long Horsehair 12601 brush (I cannot believe how funky it smelled at first - still working on getting the funk out), a DR Harris Malborough soap stick, which I haven't used, yet and am waiting for my sampler packet of Truefitt & Hill cologne and shave cream sampler to arrive.

I thought I demonstrated restraint, but now, looking back at the above, I'm not so sure. I like how I spread out my purchases and dipped into most of the available product lines. Maybe I did have more restraint than I think. If I didn't make the DE dive, I would have spent almost as much on disposable razors, foam goo, and cheap AS/Balms. Either way, I am here to stay and enjoying the hell out of my new hobby.

Thank you B&B forum world! You have added more to my life than just is what is listed above. :biggrin1:

I just joined this past May, when I jumped back into wetshaving. Must say, am enjoying shaving like never before. Yeah, it's easy to keep getting more stuff. My weaknesses are blades and soap. Am on sabbatical, have been for the whole year so far. Pretty pleased with myself. :wink2:
