What's new

A word to the wise (or not so wise newbs)

Well,

I went from having probably one of the best shaves of my young career to one of my worst shaves. A combination of things I think really. Most of all though I think a little bit of over confidence was beginning to set in. So a few bumps and slight razor rash later, I am a little bit wiser for the wear now. I think that I got going a little too fast, and I am finding my blade life now that I have had enough shaves to see how my face reacts to new blades verses a 2 or 3 shave old one. So my word to other newbs out there is if something is working for you stick with it and don't try and do too many new things at one time and for the love of Pete change your blade when you start to feel too much tugging on your face.

Sincerely "Schooled"

Good points!

Getting the greatest BBS shave EVER on Monday isn't worth much if your face can't take a shave again until Friday.

One of the primary things we learn in life is in a situation like this, only change one thing at a time. If that one thing works, great -- move onto making another change. If you make more than one at once, you won't know what is causing the problem.

Yeah I got a really nice BBS shave one day and then the next day tried to duplicate it and it turned to disaster. Instead of just sticking with the exact thing I did the day before, I tried to rush through and get the same results...no bueno!

Live and learn....and pay for it! We all have. Point "a" to point "b" can be full of potholes, so we learn to slow down.

I'm sure it's been said before somewhere but, for me, I found it helpful not to keep the water running while shaving. (Which is what I usually do--other folks only use a sink full and never have the water running.) The audible sound that shaving makes when slicing off whiskers helped me a little with proper blade angle. It can't do EVERYTHING for you, of course--you could be pressing too hard and still getting that slicing sound, for example. But if you are *brand new* and you have a slick lather on your face, you could make a pass with no pressure, and--upon running your hand over your face--discover you haven't actually shaved a thing!

Excellent point on the over confidence. If you ever feel that you've got this shave thing mastered, that's when something will happen that tells you that you don't, and that's for sure. :crying: :a31:

ALOT ! Of good points ! Every time I bust out the razor with soap or stick, boar or badger is a adventure ! I would like to think every time I put that blade to face that I'am getting better. Which I think I'am getting better.

I feel very fortunate that I found this site !
