A whey protein that will mix with water

I'm very satisfied with my EAS chocolate whey protein, but it only mixes with milk and it takes a blender to mix it right. This setup works great at home, but I often workout in the middle of the day between classes and I don't have time to go home, so I need something I can mix at the gym with water. Any suggestions on a protein and a blender bottle?

Thanks!

I use a shaker from GNC that has a little wire ball in it that works well with my Myoplex shakes. Just add half a packet, shake, add the rest and shake. It's the first one i've had that doesn't leak when i shake.

I order any and all of my protein from True Protein. Prices are very reasonable and the quality is absolutely top-notch. Hell, they'll provide you with lab analyses if you doubt 'em.

As for a specific kind of protein that will mix well with water, you're looking for a whey protein isolate as opposed to a concentrate. It's more expensive, but the protein is purer, has less fat and carbs, is easier on the stomach and tastes better.

I agree with the two previous posts. The blender bottles are indispensable and work better than all other shaker bottles I have tried. I personally have found Muscle Milk and GNC brand the best tasting and most reasonably priced whey protein shakes you can get in a GNC type store. Both mix well with water. I have never used True Protein, but their prices are actually not as low as they appear. While much lower than anything you can buy from GNC you can find much cheaper if you are willing to order in bulk. I ordered 25lbs of whey protein concentrate (at 80-85% whey it was cheaper than the 90-95% whey protein isolate and the slight loss in protein, mix-ability, and taste were not noticeable) and 50lbs of maltodextrin. Mixed in a 1:2 protein:carb ratio it was nutritionally ideal, beyond cheap, and almost totally tasteless. I would use ovaltine or whatever I had lying around to flavor.
You can buy the stuff from places like: http://store.honeyvillegrain.com/browseproducts/Maltodextrin-50-LB.html

Sorry for such a long post, but as a collegiate athlete workout nutrition is a big deal. Its definitely more convenient to just buy the premixed stuff, but its so much cheaper to buy the components in bulk and just put it into your blender bottle before you go to class. Its what I do at least. So if you use a lot of the stuff go for bulk, if not then buying whatever is popular at GNC or somewhere will work fine.

Good luck!

I previously used some by Body Fortress that my wife picked up at the local Walmart. It was inexpensive but the Vanilla and Chocolate flavors were good and since I was taking them at work water was the only thing I could use. They mixed pretty well with just a regular shaker or even stirring with a spoon wasn't bad.

My old shaker I used when I was using MetRx or EAS when they first came out (they used water at the time ) was a normal water bottle and a small cookie cutter in it to help mix stuff up.

I dont know how much this GNC bottle costs but you can get the exact same thing at vitacost for $4.77 works great and they have like 8 different colors.(if you care about that kind of thing...) I have three and they work great.

I use Optimum Nutrition whey. About 40 bucks for a 5lb jug of it and mixes well.

I echo the recommendation on the Optimum Nutrition and blender bottle. I'd go with the Cookies and Cream flavor for mixing with water.

I use GNC 100% Whey Protein. Mixes very nicely with water. I just give it a good stir with a long spoon. I got a free gold card membership so it's pretty cheap at the beginning of the month, and sometimes it's on sale on top of that.

Kaizen protein, sold at Costco, mixes really well and is pretty cheap when it goes on sale every 3 or 4 months.

+1 on this shaker...found mine at Rite Aid, can't remember exactly but I want to say it cost around $14.

Gold Standard 100% Whey will mix with anything. Tastes OK and no grit.

Water + any shaker cup + Optimum Nutrition 100% Gold Standard Whey Protein = Very High Quality Protein & great taste.

BSN Syntha-6 tastes better with just water, but it's more expensive and I don't believe is as high quality.

I also recommend Optimum 100% Gold Standard. I use the natural one which replaces the artificial sweetener with Stevia I believe. I never have a problem mixing it. I use a little electric hand blender that mixes it up instantaneously. I like the Vanilla, but all the flavors taste great and mix easily.

I started just using Casein from Optimum Nutrition for my extra protein when I need it. I stopped the whey all together. Casein fills me more and I don't think It really matters when you take it. I just use tupperware with water and the Casein mixes really well.

Just curious if the Casein protein upset your stomach at all? I tried this a few nights before bed and it really bothered me. I talked to some others who told me the same thing. Needless to say, I avoid it now.

No stomach problems with this product. I did cut down the amount of water I added to it. Was waking up in the middle of the night to take a wiz. But not anymore.

i've heard about the gold standard whey. thanks for the tip. i'll check it out. if it's cheaper than the hammer when i might go for it. although hammer whey has worked well for me i'm not stuck on it

If the casein upset your stomach replace it with some cottage cheese or greek yogurt. The protein in both is predominantly casein so it will work just as well. Not sure if you're lactose intolerant or not. I am, but the lactose content in both seems to be very low so it doesn't give me any trouble, I think it would be fine as long as you weren't severely lactose intolerant.
