A Vintage Old Spice Shave

Last week I was able to luck into some vintage Shulton era Old Spice Aftershave and a slightly faded Old Spice Mug with a lightly used soap.

Well, I gave the soap a good rinsing and was rewarded with and incredible gift of tallowy goodness. The soap looked slightly sandy looking and the scent was still there. The lather was incredible. My Parker brush loaded effortlessly. I stopped after four passes but had enough left for two more. It was thick, moist and slick. My 1966 Super Speed with a red Persona slid effortlessly over my face. There was not irritation and my skin felt soft and moist.

I followed it up with the Alum Block and some 30 year old Old Spice After Shave. The end result was a BBS better than any in my two months of wet shaving.

This soap is like Crack, but probably a lot harder to get. I guess I will use it on special occasions. It makes you wonder why in the world would they stop making it.

Yes, I recently snagged a puck of old spice... trying to get some more tonight, but someone bid $25+ on the auction. :p

I have been watching Old Spice pucks on the bay, but they are all too rich for my blood. If you think Old Spice shaving soap is expensive, watch the auction for vintage Yardley. YIKES!!!

I picked up a huge collection of vintage Old Spice Aftershave/ Cologne on the bay for around $10 (shipping included), and the bottles are all close to full.

I have been enjoying the vintage Old Spice the last few weeks as well. :thumbup1:

I have. Last puck went 90ish and two kits (full pucks, almost empty A/S, talc) went for the same. That's kind of absurd to me. For a 3+oz puck I'd cap at $25 (I'd pay more for a Yardley/Pens, but only based on Try it and resell for little to no loss plan). For a 1-2.5oz (like Old spice is) I figure 10-15 max.

I have been watching a few Old Spice Shaving Soap auctions the last month. I have yet to see one go for less than $25. They usually include the mug, which I value in the $10-$15 range. If you subtract the cost of the mug, you are in your $10-15 range for the soap itself.

While I would love to have some Old Spice for the nostalgia factor, I can't logically convince myself to spend $30 (once you figure in shipping) for a soap that is likely scent free.

I got mine for hmmm... $19 with a mug, '64 SS in what I consider VG condition, and a fancy neck duster.

edit: oh and a barber shop towel.

Frankly, I think you're overvaluing the mug a tad too... I got two mugs in a lot that included a NIB vintage OS a/s. An empty bottle (telescope) and two old brushes (one decent, one worthless) for $3 + $12 shipping.

I would love to find more vintage old Old Spice shave soap but the eBay prices are over the top. This is a wonderful soap to shave with but my pucks have also lost their scent.

I think such an auction is the exception rather than the rule: you got an amazing deal.

You might think $10-15 for the mug is too high, but that seems to be the reasonable street value from my experience. I have seen them for sale in antique shops for $12, and that was for a used mug. A brand new mug I would value at the $15 range.

Old Spice mugs are an iconic symbol of shaving in the US, every den needs at least one! :tongue_sm

Yeah I could see a new mug with box fetching $8-10 + 5-7$ shipping. I was thinking of the used good conditions you see most often.

And thanks, I was happy with it. Finally have a place to put all my soaps.

I hit the jackpot this morning.....OS heaven!!!

I bought a minimally used mug full of soap and two NOS refills for $56 off of the Bay.

When the seller sent the invoice, they said they were throwing another NOS refill. So I getting almost 4 pucks plus the mug.

I guess I have enough to last me the rest of my life now.

When I think back on the days when you could waltz in to the local drugstore and get all you could want for a buck a puck...:crying:

Nice. I stopped bidding at $32. I wondered who was paying $50+for that.

Sorry about that!!

I went all out because most of the auctions for the soap are usually just the mug and the soap, and they go for anywhere between 30 and 60 dollars.

I figured if I'm gonna pay $60, then I'm gonna get the best bang for the buck, and it worked out in my favor with the added bonus.
