A tale of two razors/shaves

I purchased a couple of different razors here on the forum to get strated (being the absolute newb that I am). A Tech and a Slim Super Adj. Started of using the Tech, and soap. First 4 shaves went well...pretty close, no cuts, etc. A little bit of tenderness of the face but not bad. Feeling pretty good about life so I tried the slim adjustable, same blade typr, set on "2". Yikes! much closer shave but also managed to cut myself in 3 or 4 different places. The learning curve is steep!

Those were the first two razors I had too.

I actually started out with the slim adjustable on setting '1'. I'd shave for a couple of days and bump it to '2'...then a few days to '3'...etc.

After I found a comfortable setting that gave a good shave, which was '5', I started using the Tech for my additional passes beyond the first one. It seems to be a great "finishing" or cleanup razor. I've never gotten a cut from the Tech. Only one knick from the Adjustable, and that's my fault for doing an exrta pass without lather on a higher setting.

I just shaved on setting '7' this morning. :thumbup1: Ive never gone high than that and probably won't even try.

If I get some sharper blades like Derbys or Feathers, I'll definitely dial it back to '1' for safety's sake until I learn what that blade is capable of.

If I tried "7" I would need a transfusion!

Tried it on "1" this morning...carefully and got a really nice shave out of it. The learning curve continues!

I've said it once, I'll say it again, I love my Slim adjustable. After my first shave with it I went trought settings 1, 2, and 3. The second time 4, 5, 6. The third time I made it to 9 and haven't looked back!

It is definately a close shave, and a great razor. My skills are young within the world of DE shaving, but even on 9 I haven't had any real problems.

I was just going to say..

Wait a few more months, and I bet you will bet at 9, looking for the next most aggressive thing.

Then you will buy a slant.

After a while, it too will become boring.

And then, you move to the one with the steepest learning curve of all.

The straight razor.
