A somewhat embarrassing question RE: going to the range

Hmm, interesting thread, I didn't ever think of getting used to the gun range enough so that you'd stop flinching. I don't go to gun ranges normally, but one of the sites that I occasionally work at is at a police gun range and I always flinch when they start firing off, especially the larger caliber weapons.
 
Excellent hearing plus survival instinct might be the cause. Both good things. Easy thing to do as mentioned by dojpros as to double up on the ear protection.
 
Have a couple of drinks to calm your flinching.

Just kidding, of course. Try some slow breathing and visualization. Play the shooting sequence out in your head before your shot. Envision getting a good sight picture, letting out your breath, and gently squeezing the trigger with the pad (not the crook) of your finger.
