What's new

A Simpson's gem perhaps?

So I have good reason to think that one of the presents for my birthday will be a vintage Simpson's Butterscotch handle Super Badger. The pictures I saw of the brush seemed to suggest that it was unused (no bloom on the brush)
Is this a gem or is it no more amazing than a new Simpson's?
I'll post pictures Monday (that's my birthday), or whenever it arrives.

I was wrong! It was a Rooney. I'm probably gonna reknot it, since the knot is not really in useable shape and I just want a cool brush to use. I'll also scratch off that extra stuff, just kept it to show you guys the Rooney labels and whatnot

I just bought something just like it. How would you put a date / value on this brush, maybe contact Rooney? Even though the company changed hands a couple years back. Happy B-day!

Thanks.
The ebay seller said it dated to the 40's but I have no idea. Any experts wanna weigh in?

I like the brush. That is a great B'day gift.

I am a noob, but have not seen that color before.

Scratch off what?!!! Leave every bit of those labels on forever. That is a magnificently beautiful brush. You're a lucky man. Happy birthday.

+1

DO NOT scratch off the remainder of the label -- that's what gives it character. Re-knotting is a different story -- do it if you must -- but I would absolutely leave the label ALONE!!!!!!

Oh man. You guys are gonna hate me :)
not only did I scratch it off, i gave the top of the handle a makeover to get rid of where the label used to be. It's not as nice as the original look of the brush when it wasfirst made, but those messy labels annoyed me
the only thing that saddens me is that it is no longer obviously a Rooney. Anyone here have great printing skills? Maybe I could get a logo printed on

btw, I scratched them off before I saw all your posts. I may have thought twice had I seen your enthusiastic and emphatic support of the labels

Last thing I would do is remove all of its visible heritage, wear and patina. I think this also applies with this brush.
