A second brush

I have a Vie-Long 13071, which is the only brush I have and I enjoy using it. I want to get a second brush, another Vie-Long horse hair. Should I stick with another horse hair brush or a badger or boar brush for variety?

That depends on what you think of your current brush. Do you want something more or less scritchy, shorter or longer loft, smaller or larger knot?

I don't have any horse brushes, but I'm curious as to how Vie-Longs mane/tail hair mixes feel compared to each other. It seems the 13071 comes in both 50/50 and 65/35 tail/mane, if I had whichever of them you have I would get a brush with the other mix.

What do you like about your current brush?

What do you dislike about your current brush?

Do you want your next brush to be similar to your current brush or different?

If different in what way?

How do you build your lather? In a bowl? On your face?

I'm happy with my horse hair brush but then I've never tried another kind so I can't really compare it with anything else. I'm using the 35/65 and don't have any problem with scritchy-ness, I bowl lather and it seems to give me a good lather. This morning I was in a rush so I only soak it for about a minute and I had the same result as when I soak it for 5 minutes. Am I missing something by not trying out other brushes, maybe this is the question I'm trying to get an answer to.

You should try anything you are interested in. I've used many different brushes. Some I have kept some I have resold. Just go for it and stop wondering....

Whatever looks goo to you. If you like horsehair, then i would go with a Semogue boar like the 830 or SOC. Good luck.
