I tried my hand at making my own balm once again. This time I mixed about 2/3 generic witch hazel and about 1/6 each of generic aloe vera gel and glycerin. Then to help with the smell of the witch hazel I added several drops of lime essential oil. I have not idea if these proportions make sense or not as this is only my second batch. But the end result is a nice, smooth balm goes on easily, makes the face feel great after a shave and helps the skin, and smells nice to boot. I'm sure this can be improved, but I'm liking it pretty well right now.

sounds interesting is it more like a balm or a liquid?
My home brew is using BR (1/4) but I use less WH, maybe about 1/3, makes it a bit thicker. I use a tiny bit of coco butter, but mostly aloe vera and shea butter.
It actually comes in a somewhat thick liquid form, something my wife had. In the BR soup of mine, I shake it up and it dissolves.
thanks! mine is a thick paste. i want to try it in my recipe... i will find out out out dissolves.

The aloe is pretty thick - a bit thicker than the glycerin. So using two thirds WH and 1/3 of the thicker ingredients leads to something closer to a balm than a liquid.
I make a balm with similar recipe but use more aloe for a balm like consistency. I've pretty much matched my CF lime balm in smell and performance for 1/8 the cost

what percentage of your product is aloe. As I said in my original post I used about 1/6 of the total. But I was thinking about using more. I could some more once I use up some of what I've got. How much would you recommend?
Excuse the ignorance, what is BR?
I mix on the fly but I would guess maybe 1/2 aloe, 1/2 WH, 10-15 drops EO, 1 tsp avacado oil, 1 tsp glycerine This is to make 2oz.
